davis8008 65
the vets at our local pets at home store are probably the best around here, reasonably priced and will tell you of a cheaper way of getting round things rather than paying for prescriptions Quote Link to post
Dawn B 212
A vet can only go on presented symptoms. There may be issues with a dog that cannot be treated successfully without further investigation. Some GI infections do not respond to broad spectrum anti biotics. Sometimes dogs need further tests to determine the cause of their problems and the best course of action and treatment to take.It annoys me when people complain about Vets. Would you prefer to let your dog suffer? Or take the correct route? If you are not satisfied, go somewhere else. Quote Link to post

Dawn B 212
A Vet can only treat the symptoms. If the dog has something more seriously wrong with it, it may require further or different treatment. Everything isnt as easy as people seem to think it is. If you are not satisfied that the vet has acted ethically, there are ways to go about correcting it, moaning about it wont help. I did this with my last Vet, I was not happy with the things they suggested, I moved Vets the same evening. They transfer all details immediately so the new vet can see whats gone on. I certainly wouldnt have kept forking out money if I was sure the Vet wasnt doing the best for my dog, would you? The guy obviously felt he was getting a reasonable service otherwise Im sure he would have refused to pay for it, I wouldnt!!£400.00 or £4000.000 may not see a dog right, Thats just the way it is. sandymere 8,263
Gastritis and colitis can be both difficult to nail down to a specific cause and to treat effectively. It is often a virus so there is no real treatment other than keeping the animal hydrated; if bacterial it can be that antibiotics cause as many problems as they cure. There are many tests available at a price but all may fail to find a cause because of timing etc. Then there are functional causes………… So not a simple problem but can be life threatening, the vet will do what you ask/ instruct so you need to discuss the options, tests etc and decide what you want to do rather than leave the decisions to the vet.
