WoodsmanJim 160
Aye, can't wait to see the results of the blasting either! Very handy having a mate who can do that for you I've just done my first ever knife handle in English Walnut, was easy to work and has nice colouration to it too. In theory you could use any wood at all, a hardwood would do well though as I guess it'll hold up to knocks and bangs a bit better? Jim
hobble 11
Just found out.today that the wood I got.from our chippy.guy at.work Is mahogany so shld be just fine for my new handle.

WoodsmanJim 160
Here we are folks, looks good! I'd be tempted to give it a good going over with a wire brush too, get right into those pits. I reckon that blade will cut back to a good edge again, will take some work but doable. Gonna be a great knife with a good story behind it too... Jim
hobble 11
Thankyou very much jim... and tou can now be included in the story as well....wld tou know where I can get rivets for the handle and perhaps what type wld be suitable...I had thought perhaps brass ones due to the possible nice contrast with the mahogany! :0)
riohog 5,701
your going to loose a fair bit of steel bringing that back , may alter the profile abit , when to grind a new bevel good luck!
hobble 11
Im not sure atm whether to try and bring it right back or just clean it up best I can myself from the condition I have it in now. Either way it will definitely be better than it was. :0) any advice on doing either will be greatly appreciated. Edited January 25, 2014 by hobble
