Wullz 408
Hi, I have had my Springer now for a few years and in the last 2 weeks, she has started barking in her kennel. This is after she has been walked/run had a swim, been fed and put back into her kennel with a heat lamp on.... Any ideas why she would start this? The only thing I can relate it to is that I had 3 weeks off work and we were out shooting as much as possible over those 3 weeks and so she is getting worked less now that I am back at work myself....would that cause it? How do I stop it!!! Wullie Quote Link to post

Mickey Finn 3,012
Try the bone. If that doesn't work try a bark collar. 1 Quote Link to post
Wullz 408
Hi all, @gonetoearth, I feed the dog, only ever me except on a very odd occasion. Same time and under same circumstances every night. @others She has calmed down a wee bit over the last couple of nights, I will keep a deer's leg on standby though, see if that occupies her. cheers for the replies... mattlimb 27
Is your Springer a dog? Could there be a bitch nearby that has come into season? Quote Link to post

Wullz 408
Now that's something I have not tried, cheers, will give that a go. I was toying with bringing the spaniel indoors to see if that worked, but I am too worried she would get to like it....... Quote Link to post

I do the same and you do get it on bright nights, good door on kennel as once they are shut in they calm down, also warmer for them at this time of year Quote Link to post
Philluk 181
But be aware you don't give in, they learn very quickly. The dog barks - you give it bone - the dog eats said bone- dog barks- you give bone. It connect barking with a reward, what does dog do when he wants a bone??? Encourage the word quiet loud harsh voice, every time it barked shout quiet. When I was in hunt service if a single hound barked we would go in and throw water over them whilst shouting quiet. After a while just the word worked 1 Quote Link to post
Huan72 687
I think you answered the problem in the first post, a dog wants to be with you, they are social animals. For three weeks you were spending a lot more time than usual with your dog and your dog got to expect this increased amount of interaction but now your back at work, your dog still wants the together time Anyway I hope things have improved.
