Popular Post NEWKID 27,132
We had been looking forward to this one, it was the first time on Sam's new bit and promised to be a good one,all the signs were promising it was a fair walk to the first hedge but once there the dogs marked and the hedge was pickled with holes... Well after the last few weeks of having to clear a bit using the long nets it was nice to have the runners out with us and only using stop nets and a few pokes, the long nets were only ran along the top and bottom to stop any rabbits going back or through gates etc.... the rest was open for the dogs to work, I've got to be honest I love this way of ferreting. These are deep sandy warrens so a fair few ferrets are needed we had 8 amongst us and they were used 4-6 at a time, but they are working well now after seeing a lot of rabbits this season so far and today was the same, within a minute or so we were away I still had a ferret in my hand as I was trying to sort the rabbit This continued along the hedge as rabbits steadily started to bolt, the dogs were loving it and picking up the rabbits after short runs either side, it was then Sean heard some squealing on a hole edge and jumped into action ( well ambled ).. in the hedge he flew and shoved his face in a load of nettles, to be fair he didn't moan that much ( honestly ).. but he pulled the rabbit out so alls good... The catch of the day was from this hedge, Seans dog Koda was on the opposite side of the hedge when a rabbit bolted, it made a break for freedom around the top of the hedge with koda on its tail, right accross our line, sean was ready with the camera and caught it perfectly We reached the end of the hedge and had already put 23 in the bag, a lot to the dogs which was great to see With nets picked up and ferrets away, we moved to the hedge above hoping for more of the same, this was a steeper bank and full of nettleswhich I was soon to discover as I copied Sean and shoved my face in a load as I tried to pull a rabbit out of a hole... it f***ing hurt much to the delight of the rest of the lads.... b*****ds We had quickly taken 2 from the first little bit when the ferrets started to show, it was decided to pick up, we had most boxed when Sam bent down to pick one out of the greenery..... "OOOOOOOWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLL"..... ( I'm not sure I've done his girly scream justice there )..... I was sure he had a ferret hanging off his finger... but no.... " did the ferret bite you mate?".... a sheepish.. " no" ..from Sam..... " what was the scream for"........ " I stung my finger" ... " you f***ing What"... Cue the rest of the days entertainment..... He didn't have Kelly to cuddle him either but I'm sure I spotted Mark giving him a little hug as Sean kept up the abuse We worked away at the hedge missing a few but catching more, we had 8 altogether from this bit but decided to quit whilst ahead... the last 3 trips have yielded 113 rabbits so the freezers are full and the farmer would be happy with 31 rabbits taken off his land. Oh and there was 1 dig today, Sean was still moaning about his achy arms after his epic 2ft dig last week ... I had to pick up the shovel this time... I suppose thats miners for you Another great day lads, cheers 36 Quote Link to post

Then get moaned at for stinking of all of the above when I got home, fancy trading places next time? 1 Quote Link to post
