An air rifle is ample at a matter of inches.

I have all 3 firearms at hand just trying to determine the most effective option. What I'm gonna do is have a wonder with the 12G and then bait them with a safe backstop with the .22lr see how I get on. Any caught in traps try the air rifle with a concern for riccochet in the back of my mind I think that's the best option listening to all your great views and opinions ;) thanks all

I know of a keeper that did that, took a long shot at a fox with his 222, turned out to be a moggy from one of the farms on the estate and it made it home with its eyeball following behind on a piece of thread, luckily he new the farmers pretty well and just had to pay the vets bill

I'm just surprised it was still alive. I'm not in any way rubbishing your story, but I am very surprised a cat could take a hit in the head from a .223, never mind one that left its eyeball outside of its skull.

thats cause it was a .222 it was shot with

i think someone was having a jackanory moment when this story was told

No god honest dont know how it happened it was a long shot over 300, maybe your right but I have never known him to lie. Also for the record I shot a rabbit in the summer with a 40 vmax from my 223, was still alive when I picked it up? All it had was the skin missing from between its ears, the skull had hardly been touched

That guy sounds awesome.
