took one of my week old pups to the vets thursday

due to an eye infection, one of the eyes had filled with puss

under the closed lids.

they gave him a shot of anti-biotics,squeezed the puss out, cleaned up

etc.anti/biotics for home gave me a bill for £40

trouble is one of the others seems to be getting the same problem

just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem and what

did to treat it .

to be honest it was a shambles at the vets did'nt have scales to weigh pups

asked me if i knew the weight :icon_eek: thanks in advance Roybo :good:

My Tess had the same prolem when she was a little older, and they gave her and antibiotic cream which cleared it up, but it kept coming back. Someone recommended cotton wool dipped in cold tea (no sugar or milk :D ) and dabbed gently on the eye. Worked a treat :good:

My Spaniel has a problem as in everytime she goes out she comes back with gunk in her eyes,,, I clean them out with water but the next morning they need cleaned again,,, I was told to hold a cold teabag over them ( old wives tale)) but it seems to work, her eyes seem ok till the next time she goes out.

My old dog gets conjunctivitis every summer and that's green gunk in the corners of his eyes and if unchecked, his entire eye gets milky and shitty. If your dogs has got this, then chances are it's always going to have it and it spreads so watch your other dogs. Get along to your vet and get some Tiacil and put one drop (terrier) three times a day in each eye. It'll clear up in no time. Watch for bushing dogs though as they often get seeds in their eyes which creates the gunk as it clears the debris.

To clean the eye use optrex if its a bad infection get down the vets ask for a repeat perscription if not any opthalmic eye ointment will do there's a new one out now that you don't need on perscription, problem you got is the pups are too young too have their eyes open.so dont know where ud stand there good luck hopfully the vet will be more understandin as he,s seen one pup you should only get charged fo a repeat prescription not for another examination good luck mate :good:

My vet says bathe eyes in cold tea ( not the sort of vet to make money out of you) and it works fine.

But runny eyes in pups can be the start of summat viral so if pups go downhill, blood test quickly.

I have seen this a few times , just keep it open(in corner where the pup would tear) so it can drian and use a warm compress slight pressure to help it drian, the moms antibodies will keep the babys healthy till they eyes open completely and it will clear up entirly, dont worry about it. I read an article once about what causes it, but cant recall , it was no big long term problem though.
