you need to be able to store the ammo in a separate secure cabinet this can be internally in the cabinet or an external safe

Was thinking of using one of the small code and key safes for ammo fastened in a separate room of the house

So can I use my homemade safe if the ammo is stored somewhere else.?

If the police think your safe is fine for the shotgun and granted you a licence as long as nothing has changed then they can't chuck their toys out of the pram with any FAC request you make.

I picked up a cheap digital safe for my ammo and my gun cabinet isn't the best I've ever seen but to be honest the team seemed fine (didn't actually even bother to view my ammo safe) and I was granted what I'd asked for.

Go for it.

Cheers for you help men......also I no this might be a strange question but what is the lenth of a 22rimmy? My safe is 47 inch tall will that be tall enought for a rifle with a mod ?

Depends on what type you buy. Some are takedown models that will fit into a rucksack, others have 14-22" barrels. I don't store a rifle with a moderator on it anyway but my Ruger 10/22 is shorter than my shotguns and I don't have an issue with it lengthways. Just remember as it will more than likely have a scope you need to be careful that you've got enough room in your cabinet as it will take up more depth than a 12 bore.

Doesn't takinging the mod off alter the zeroing

Only time my zero was off after putting the mod on was when I had pieced the baffles back into the sleeve wrong. It wasn't muffling the sound properly either. Came to the conclusion it was possibly the round hitting the baffles. Sorted it all out, gave it a clean and screwed the mod back on and my zero was perfect again.
