Guest mush
Just wondering has any of you seen a 3/4 run? trouble is with out knowing for sure how a bitch is bred it makes it hard to know what type to put to her, I've seen almost pure salukis, greyhounds, collies est. come out of lurcher to lurcher. so just because you put a 3/4 Grey 1/4 Saluki to a bitch doesn't mean you will get the type your after as you have saluki and greyhound on both sides, so you will get all sorts. What you need to do is find a dog that has the running style you want and is known to stamp his type no matter how a bitch is bred. dont use a whippet or pure greyhound or they will be shit JMO Quote Link to post
tyson 1
yes ive saw several 3/4 breds run and they arent much use , not enough stamina they ok if you happy with under a minute in the tank and they too injury prone Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
Im just posting what the guys asked me to post. I have only seen a couple of 3/4 grey 1/4 salukis and thats Darcy's dogs and I liked both of them (Jack and Scooby) I saw more of Jack running and this dog didnt seem to lack stamina, allthough I think he did get a few injuries as many fast dogs do. I think he would definately consider something like a saluki/grey whippet/grey as thats pretty much how the bitch is bred (she is out of Bob) If there is a seasoned dog out there of this breeding that fits the criteria and has thrown decent stuff he would probably be interested in that as much as a 3/4 bred Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
Cant yer pal use the stud you lined ollie with?? Image you have already mabie thought of it and it was a no goer?? Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
He was going to line the bitch with that dog but it went off on a deer and never came back, missing presumed dead. There was several posts about it on the old forum but you maybe missed them. He lined my bitch and the litter sister to this bitch with that dog and then the dog went missing before he got chance to use it on his other bitch, searched for it for weeks to no avail, he was a keen hunter and its likely he took off into the woods after the roe and had some kind of accident My mate has allready got 2 pups out of this dog from his other bitch, he is not lining her sister for himself, hes doing the mating purely for the long list of folk who are waiting for pups, myself included, hence the reason I am trying to help him find the right dog for her. Hes the old school who doesnt breed a bitch til they are finished and pups go to mates for free, so hes not in it for the money before anyone jumps to that conclusion Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
Never knew it went missing bet they were sick.. hope he find a suitable dog... how your little bitch coming on?? how old is she now 5months?? Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
17 weeks old, shes doing well, very saluki-fied, took a while to get a bond with her and I had to bribe the hell out of her to get her to recall, but her good points outweigh her bad She is light boned under the fluffy coat and has a nice shape to her. I have instilled the basics now its just time to let her grow and mature before trying her out to see if she is up to scratch Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
I hope it all works out for you with her.. Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
I really hope so too, Ive had bad luck with the last few pups I have reared for hare retreiving, my bitch out of Fury was like an elephant turning, my dog out of Meg got poisoned and my 3/4 out of Casper had no petrol so I have got everything crossed this pup will be able to do the business, I think its time I got my lucky break Quote Link to post
tyson 1
i hope something comes up soon for you SJM you deserve a good dog as you are totally comitted to your dogs everyway possible , all in great nick and you have great passion for hunting of all kinds , where as lowly humans like myself just like daytime coursing Quote Link to post

As you say they don't lack stamina, well most don't. I've had a few of them and find them to fast ( i don't like that style ) and they don't use their heads like a saluki, they will do more than a minute LOL but they need a lot of running before they start controlling their speed daytime. Lamping they are very good, the last one I had which died last year would go out of the beam and come in on the rabbits from out darkness, and they all retrived live to had, never had many injures with any of them.
