baw 4,360
I can mind Michael Jackson in his hey day, oxygen tent etc, gonna live for ever...... You could give up everything and die the next day. That's one of the reasons I don't have a pension, why work all your days paying into something there is a good chance you'll never live to see it. Enjoy today, the only day your guaranteed to see.if you get the right pension you can retire early ---then enjoy it Yea or invest wisely, better investments than long term pension schemes done both when i took out mine waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back it was all tax free so sooner than give it the tax man mine went into a pension...took the lump sum of them both Aye stig but if you fell into a river you'd come out drier than you went in there is a 10 year plan, can't mind the name of it. Pay into it for 10 years, get the money, put the money into a high interest bank account, open up another 2, 10 year plans getting paid from the money from the first one you did. 10 years cash it it, open another 4, using the money from the second, 30 years of money invested and you've only paid in to it for

sandymere 8,263
Good genes are the biggest determinant, have long lived parents but even the best genetics can be fecked if you try hard enough. Common sense, a little drink, the odd coffee and fried breakfast does no harm, it’s when its taken to the silly point that it really effects life. Then it often doesn't reduce the length of life as much as it reduces the quality of life. To many fry ups etc and obesity leads to knackered joints, diabetes etc etc. Smoking is a little different, that tends to reduce life and reduces the quality of that life. One of the ways is that it increases the risk of loss of brain function, ischemic changes to brain, so you end up increasing the risk of needing some one to wipe your arse. I’d rather do without a cigarette and wipe me own arse, with a bit of luck I’ll stay healthy until I wake up dead one morning.
Nik_B 3,790
I've never put a fag to my lips, 100% teetotal, no drugs or any other detrimental habit to ones health. . But I'm not sure it'll give me 10 extra years! Haha. . Thinking about it, as has already been said, yes it's all about moderation. . But I think if there's one thing for sure that will shorten your life and wellbeing it's this - STRESS. . Stress will shorten your life quicker than any of the aforementioned habits in proportion. . In fact I think far too much is made of "healthy eating" or "healthy living" let's be a little more specific, maybe more focus should placed on living happy and de-stressing! And if that means having a bevy, a fry up, a smoke, even a Jamaican woodbine, so be it! Ultimately, I'd rather live 60 years happy than 90 not so. . I like what Abraham Lincoln said "And in the end it is not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years". Stress is a definite killer but it's also a big reason why people drink and smoke as well so it's a double whammy.

Accip74 7,112
The worst thing about drinking, smoking & taking drugs is the sheer amount of money it eats up in no time........money you wouldn't dream of spending on private health care insurance...lol As for extending life....there's always something...you could smoke & drink as much as you like & die from skin cancer...

04fox8 168
Been off the woodbines now for 7 weeks, and counting them at £10/Day I've now rounded up a tidy wee sum. Sickens me to think what they've cost over the last 20 years! Had FAR too much vodka on New Years Day, and still not feeling right yet. Think I'd rather have the quality rather than the quantity to be honest, but now we have the kids running about, I've got to thinking I'd like to be around as long as I can,so long as I am able to carry on without being a burden to them. Used to have a bit of a 'f**k it and see' kinda attidute, but old age is kicking in I fear. 10 Less years, but a good time for those we have.
