Bolting Foxes/hard Terriers

Recommended Posts

No need for people to try slate me for trying to get more knowledge I admitted I was not a " terrier man" and said I enjoy watching the hunt nothing wrong with that!!! Fox digger that was exactly the reply I was looking for !!! Was just curious as to how you'd train a dog to do either job (baying/mixing)! Many thanks to those who gave sensible answers!!:)

He may have been round a hole but i know certain hunts that dont like anyone except the terrier man and his pals at a hole, cant see why there has to be an inquisition every time someone asks a question, makes a change from the "lets see your hardest dog pics"

I've never been at a hole watching? The terrier man keep it to them selves! That's why i asked the question because I didn't no... I would of asked them if I was close enough to them to ask! This forum is for people to learn and discuss hobbies/passions. Thanks again to those that gave sensible answers. It's not like I'm asking to see your dogs smashed up or on illegal quarry, so was a completely legitimate question to aak

Well here's a completely legitimate answer...

As hunting foxes is illegal, hunts will not hunt nor bolt foxes.. It's as plain and simple as that really, better off asking how keepers & pest controllers do it ;-)

Maltease terriers are all the rage these days as the sneak up and bark very loud thus scaring the fox and making it extreamly keen to leave the earth. So ive been told

Tell the truth GTE....you have a kennel full of them

yeh and !!!!!

I had a patterdale bitch bred off hard parents and to look at her you would of thought it was a grandmas lap dog lol, didn't look up t much, and she was an out and out bolter, never took any stick, i'm not saying thats a good thing but she new her job, sometimes a terrier is needed to hold the quarry down to ground, but very rarely will u see a fox on a hunt that will bolt as its been chased to ground and no's whats waiting for it if it does bolt, if your dead silent and don't walk over the earth and slip the dog from a distance your more likely to get a bolt the same rules as ferreting rabbits, but as has been said above all dogs are different and its another crap law that u hav to use soft terriers as it cnt be done, but terrierwork in my opinion is one of the best forms of pest control as its selective and once you've got him humane dispatch.
