robbo 828
I had a shoulder reconstruction done about seven years ago . Ten weeks in a sling and three months physio. It was my right shoulder and I'm right handed but I still managed to go fishing in a fashion and do most other things reasonable well. Only thing I never really got the hang of was wanking lol. Nik_B 3,790
just got a call from the doctor after the results of my scan last week i`ve got 2 bad tendon tears in my shoulder --and he`s referring me to a surgeon --- it needs sorting but i`m well pissed off looks like 4-6 weeks rest and in a sling then 8-12 of physio ---- anyone one had this op ?http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00406 ----- max if your looking in get yours looked at mate.. I had a similar op Stig. I didn't have a rotator cuff tear but the symptoms were very similar. It turned out I had calcification of the two tendons on my right shoulder and an issue with the bicep where it attaches in your shoulder. The calcification was so bad the surgeon said it was the most he'd ever seen, he had to scrape out a chalk like substance from between the two tendons and then try to repair what he could. The op is pretty straight forward, it's keyhole surgery and you will be home the same day but make sure you ask for painkillers!! Also make sure you do the physio, this is the most important bit and because it hurts you probably wont want to do the exercises but it's really important to get it moving while it is still healing rather than wait till afterwards.
badgeroy 3
Had my op just under 6 weeks ago could'nt do 100% job as it was so badly torn, bloody sling is like a parachute harness the idea being you have a foam wedge just above waist level and straps to hold your elbow tight to the wedge allowing a gap between upper arm and your body thus keeping your upper arm in position, sling is 24 hours a day.I get very frustrated not being able to do simple things not even allowed to use that arm to eat with.I start physio next Wednesday I'm told 6 weeks regaining movement and another 6 to get strength back. I'm retired so not losing wages but getting very pissed off. Hope every thing goes well for you. Cheers Roy Edited January 9, 2014 by badgeroy
