Moorman 1 1,353
Goretex is just an added layer to label them 'waterproof'.... Leather is waterproof.... you dont see cows needing a goretex jacket when it rains ... What a load of Bollox if they are Goretex then they will be waterproof. So if leather is waterproof why would they line them with a Goretex membrane?? Quote Link to post

Don't talk crap.....so you have never got wet feet when wearing leather footwear??? If leather is waterproof why is it when the Goretex membrane has had its day that water comes through. Leather when treated with a wax polish or dubin is then water resistant, once the wax dressing has worn off then they let water in. Edited January 31, 2014 by Moorman 1 1 Quote Link to post

Yes preferably Goretex lol,I suppose that you walk around with nothing at all on as your skin is waterproof..! Do you swim with a goretex jacket on like? .... ... Look... skins waterproof right? ... And goretex...works in 2 ways... It keeps water out... and also is breathable...to let air out.... and stop the inside getting damp/wet... By sandwiching that super developed material in between leather means that the air cant get out... and cant breath... And the inside will condensate... and get wet from the inside... Namely your socks... Defeating the purpose... Polishing leather will keep them 'wateroroof' to a degree....and is sufficient for the majority of peoples needs... If you require 1billion percent waterproof boots that much... a pair of wellies would do the job... Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
Leather is not weatherproof. Hide, when attached to its original owner is. Leather is dead skin, which unless cared for will absorb water. Goretex is there as a safety net for when dead skin soaks up water. For all intents and purposes a condom. So if your a good catholic lad, just wear leather and be careful. Us Protestants and heathens prefer the security of backup 5 Quote Link to post

stabba 10,745
Leather in its natural state(as a boot with no goretex) is waterproof if maintained(dubbing / polish) . Lax on that then it will become porous over time. Trouble with most folk is they just abuse the boots without any maintanance then wonder why they leak. This is where the goretex comes in. It allows you to abuse boots without the ballache of polishing/dubbing. Quote Link to post
robadoo 212
tbh ive always bought gortex versions of boots , and never had much of a problem with my feet getting to sweaty even in summer ,just wear more appropriate socks . like stabba says alot of folk don't keep their boots polished up , so in this sodden country of ours I think gortex lined for a few extra quid is well worth it for peace of mind . 1 Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
I wear boots everyday... and wear them in all weathers...all over the UK.... And have never had wet feet... Goretex cant work properly under a layer of leather... It repels the water away and cant do that in boots... Its a marketing game by gore to get their products into everything... And add a few quid ontop.... Ask yourself this... If goretex lined boots was the be all...and end all... of boots.... Then why do they still sell the leather ones? .... Companies would just make goretex boots and be done with it... they would make more money by selling them alone... They stopped using steam engines when petrol/electricity power was available....
