'We don’t steal, we just take the rubbish that people don’t want’

‘We make £150 in two weeks – so we have to save every penny in order to pay our rent. We have to sell scrap metal because we don’t have the right paperwork to get a normal job.’

:hmm: :hmm: what happened to having scrap money paid buy cheque ?? cant see them having bank accounts :hmm: :hmm:

ways around anything theres a yard here where you get an account and withdraw your money from their own cash point
aye simple really, uncrossed cheque and you can cash it anywhere, not just the banks..

Is there still such a thing Malt? I thought all chequebooks were crossed nowadays.

plenty of places like that most the kids I look after come from similar back grounds, sure the TV [peeps like to show the extremes but lots of people live like that, they have no real stake in society

do they get paid for it?surely no c**t in there right mind would let someone film them at thier lowest point in life for f**k all.

Place needs culling like the West country TB virus !

Don't know mate if truth be told.. I know the pubs used to cash peoples pay cheques and you could cash them at places like shopacheck years ago. Don't know how it all works now, like Paulus said there's probably ways round it..

  • 2 weeks later...

I finally watched it last night.

I thought some of the people were tragic, the girl without her front teeth lost her son, and the young family who were really kids with kids....not a clue how to raise children and the young lad finally tried to get a job and they made him do canvasing which is a sh*t sole destroying job (I did it for a few years) and he didn't even earn any money.

It wasn't quite what I expected although they must have lept for joy when they got that White Dee as their main star. Not sure it's right to make a laughing stock of people in this situation even if they are frustrating because they don't make enough effort in life.

That young couple weren't really bad though, they were dumb enough to have kids at a very early age and are now living in a horrible place, their kids don't stand a chance. I thought it was disgusting that the only job they could find him was door to door canvasing. I'd rather he was given his benefits and did something that would get his confidence up, he wasn't the brightest tool in the box but surely they could have got him something better than that?

Normally these sort of program's piss me off abit. This program actually made me feel abit sad in some way. Black bloke with the 50ps should get offered a job with a normal regular wage. White dee should be able to get a job doing something. Seems to have decent people skills and trusted I mean that fungi is a junkie with nothing and he gives her his money to look after. As for the junkies what does locking them up even achieve? They are coming out to the same life, just costs taxpayers money putting em in prison.

Alot of these people are thick or addicts hardly living the life of luxury. Couldn't pay me enough to live like that. Amount of money useless lying mps get paid and take pisses me off more. These people aren't thick and are living better than most but still want more.

Yep that's how I felt...I started out thinking I'd be raging.

By the way White Dee was the most intelligent of the lot of them....she used to work and got caught scamming from the council where she worked in admin lol. She's the most criminal of all of them, had a job had a man had kids and f**ked it all up through greed.

Most of the rest of them made me feel sad but i only watch one episode

could find people like this in every area:

Seven people have been charged with drug dealing offences after raids on James Turner Street in Birmingham.

Six of those charged live in the road - the subject of the Channel 4 documentary series Benefits Street - and one lives in Handsworth.

Of the defendants living in the Winson Green street; Samora Roberts, 32, Marvin Scott, 37, Monique Walker, 28, Ian Wright 38, Charlene Wilson, 29, were all charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine.

Ms Roberts was also charged with conspiracy to supply cannabis, possession of diamorphine and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

Ms Wilson was also charged with conspiracy to supply cannabis and possession of diamorphine.

Mr Wright was also charged with conspiracy to supply cannabis.

Tina Thomas, 46, was charged with conspiracy to supply cannabis and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

The seventh defendant, Omari George, 20, of Dora Road, Handsworth, was charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine and conspiracy to supply cannabis.
