Hi lads going to make a few of my own rabbit snares for a fair bit of permission ive just got on a farm. Can you tell me what length of wire etc ive never made a rabbit snare before only a couple of fox snares. Can you give me a quick run through of things please also heard using a cordless drill to make them ? Ive got a big reel of red bailer twine on the shoot is that ok to use or will they notice the colour of it. Many thanks Andrew.

i do quite a lot of rabbit trapping but not a lot of snaring.

first i would get fumiliar with the law on snares and then buy snare and attach some pegs or buy some thin copper whire that is strong.

if you can read a blog on snaring even better and then find a run and set the bottom of the loop at roughly 6 inch.

The bailer twine is perfect for the twine on your peg snares a 7inch peg will hold in all but the softest ground make your peg length in accordance to your ground conditions in really soft ground a hoop snare would be the best option.

Snare length off 22.5 ins is typical but I take a lot of hares so all my peg wires are made from 24in long six strand spun brass wire attached to 10.5 ins wire tealers .

This gives me the option of setting straight over a run on higher vegetation eliminating the need to cock the snare up to result in a catch your normal setting hight can be from the six inch mark up to 9 or 10 inches depending on the hight of the fauna ,John Bryant who is the owner of fourteen acre sells a snaring dvd that will help you on your way. good luck and tight wires
