Epilepsy

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has experience of Epilepsy in Lurchers?

Pup is just over a year now and a few months ago developed a head shake. It happened quite frequently for the first week or so but is now much less often. It lasts a minute or so and he's completely with it when it happens and doesn't seem to affect him. Apart from that he's in good form, eats well and has a really good drive.

Vet suggests it might be a really mild epilepsy and just to monitor it. Though he doesn't seem so sure.

Any advice/ experience would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I HAD A YOUNG DOG A FEW YEARS BACK....A WEE BEDDY/GREY TYPE....PROMISING YOUNG DOG.....AND AROUND THE SAME AGE ABOUT A YEAR OLD IT STARTED TO HAVE VERY SHORT FITS....I JUST GOT ON WITH IT,FERRETING,LAMPING,DAYTIME,ETC...AS PAULUS SAYS ITS COSTLY TO GET IT CHECKED OUT....BUT BY THE TIME MY DOG WAS 18MONTH OLD THE FITS WERE FCUKIN HORRIBLE AND WENT ON FOR QUITE A WHILE...ONE DAY IT TOOK SEVEN FITS ONE AFTER THE OTHER...POOR MUTT WAS SCARED TO DEATH TRYED TO BITE ME WHEN SHE CAME ROUND....AS IF IT WAS MY FAULT....NEEDLESS TO SAY THE NEXT DAY THE DOG WAS PUT TO SLEEP...AS THIS WAS THE MOST HUMANE THING TO DO.....BUT THIS IS JUST ONE DOG AND MY EXPEIRENCE OF EPILEPSY IN DOGS....YOURS COULD BE TOTALLY DIFFERENT... ;) ...IF YOU HAVE NOT GOT THE MONEY TO GET IT CHECKED OUT....JUST WATCH IT LIKE A HAWK,AND YOU YOURSELF WILL BE ABLE TO SEE IF IT GETS ANY WORSE....YOU CAN GET MEDICATION FOR THEM,BUT THE WILL BE ON IT THE REST OF THEIR LIFE AND IT DOES NOT ACTUALLY STOP IT IN SOME CASES IT JUST CALMS IT DOWN......ALL THE BEST WITH YOUR DOG MATE....HOPE IT ALL COMES GOOD MATE....
