Hello all, just curious to know how many of you trim your ferrets claws and how often you do it?

I clip the front paws every few weeks .I use old fleeces for bedding for the ferrets and if I don't clip the claws they get caught on the bedding

The less work mine get the more often they need a trim, on average once a month. I too use fleece type bedding & long claws can get caught-up.

No never cut mine if they get in trouble down a burrow they can dig there way out or just get the kids to walk them round the street an wear them down atb stevo

Try a rough surfaced roof tile on the floor of the hutch just outside the nest box entrance....keeps the claws in trim but doesn't harm their pads...

I only ever cut mine when it's the off season, but I only trim them I never cut them short. They are useful when they are working

I sometimes give them a trim, I just put a spot of Ferettone on their stomach and they get really occupied licking it,

I then trim the nails with the Dog clippers no problem, same as dogs, just clip the tips, don't be severe.

Cut mine, read it can hurt their feet if the nails so long it touches the ground first and pushes the toe up.

Very rarley have i cut a ferrets claw in 30years of keeping them,however they have a concrete run and logs in their court and this helps for sure.

Also if your going to cut them, don't cut so short you cut into the quick - the darker reddish bit inside the nail, as that's part of their blood flow. Would cause pain and bleeding. Just trim.

Might cut them once in the summer time , but no the now they use them for scraping at stubborn rabbits
