Think that was well before thatcher when you could jump from job to job

try 1966-73 maybe ?

Probably mate but it was still better than now. Maggie allowed people to start their own business, buy their own home rather than rent from the council, she did a lot of good.

She may have saved the Southern half of the country. But certainly fcuked the Northern half up good and proper.

Virtually 30 years on and still my area(and surrounding) are not over the pit closures. Very far from it in fact. Stick a few factory units up and employ a couple of dozen folk then ship out and say"

No, she saved it !

how was selling off social housing stock good!!! not many youngsters can afford to buy a house any more, you take a young couple on minimum wage looking at buying an average house costing say 150k and requiring a 30% deposit, you do the maths, then do the same calculation for private renting at 550 a month, it was never going to happen no wonder are youth are fooked

Then they are looking in the wrong areas Paulus. You buy what you can afford, and there IS affordable housing. Plenty 2-4 bed terraced (ex council houses) for under 100k and as long as you haven't been a fud with credit and your financial history shows you are sensible you should be able to get a 90% LTV mortgage.

national minimum wage is roughly 12k a year so x 2 = 24k x 3 = 72k then they would need to save the 20k plus deposite whilst still paying rent and bills

I know how tight it is starting off Paulus, I had to do it on my own, I'm not on minimum wage but I was on my own. I lived a very frugal life but I wanted independance and was willing to make that sacrifice.

100k property at 90% LTV mortgage on 25 year term would rock up at 10k deposit and monthly payments of say around 500. It's affordable imo. Especially for two earners on minimum wage who wont be paying as much in tax combined as one person earning double.

Maggie only gave the working classes the right to buy so that in future she had them over a barrel re' disputes strikes ect

She quite cunningly gave the working classes something to loose.

Born Hunter dont talk rubbish

Its virtualy impossible to get on the housing ladder

Thatcher sold off all social housing giving private landlords the green light to take the piss with private rents.

Bliars uncontroled immigration put a strain on housing numbers fueling uncontrolled housing price boom between 2000-2008

Now Mp'and Banking crisis ( if there was one ) was it orcastrated to ostricise the masses ?

You tell me what you could afford to buy if you were on £7 per hour with the massively riseing costs of Utilities, Fuel, Food, Council Tax ect ect

Fook all thats what.

Its maybe ok for you on a Chemists wage of £30k per year plus im guessing

Dont judge other folk till you have had to walk a mile in their shoes

The system aint fair and is set up to keep certain families and people at the top rung

Make no mistake.

Virtually impossible..... you know a lot about me do ya?

Wait the now till I make a foil hat from this tin foil....... That's better. You know what I find remarkable, all these cunning plans the government come up with, really elaborate complicated plans and we all know they aren't capable of doing anything right. With hindsight it's easy to pick out negatives and convince yourself it was one dastardly ploy to control the masses :hmm:

Look, I don't want to knock anybody, it ain't easy being young and wanting your independance, I want the world and it can't come fast enough! The national job situation is a bitch right now and has been for 4 years or more. But housing is out there for those that are willing to cut back on their lives and expectations a bit. We all have to make sacrifices to get what we want.

Lifes a f***ing bitch!
