steve2507 522
How many of you lads give a little bit of grub whilst out on a hard slog day or night ? I always carry a boiled egg with me or 2 if I have both dogs with me, I have found if they lagging a bit it gives them a bit more fuel. Quote Link to post

steve2507 522
so setting off first light or last light and staying out for the duration (last light or first ) your dogs run on what they went out with good slog for a dog that maybe several small runs and several long runs and still run on the tank they went out in fair does lads 1 Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,266
Last season I experimented,,with giving the dog some grub halfway through a big night out ,,after the dog had cought around 30 rabbits,, I went in to a barn for a rest,,for about 30 mins,,, got out my small rucksack , about half a pint of milk,, in a bowl,, as well as a cheese sarnie,, and gave it to the dog,, I will be honest here,, I thought it perked her up,,, Maybe it was sycosimatic,, and it was just the bit of rest,, but it seemed to work,,,, I know jim last year when he did the ton with earn stopped and fed him some grub half way through the night 1 Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
A small amount of high fat/high carb/high protein will help a dog if it is out for many hours: something that won't sit heavy in their guts: I've used a small tin of mackerel in oil with a slice of brown bread in the past when out coursing all day. Seems to help: but just as important is to get a similar food into them as soon as they've stopped running for the day/night: once they've had a drink and stopped panting of course. Bad idea to let a dog drink a lot after eating when tired: likely to bring it all up again straight away. I always feed a small meal in the back of the van before we make the trip home: makes sense if you're a long way from home. 1 Quote Link to post
