I run them hard, rub them down & grub them up at home. Some lads give soup or small amounts of food. Some give electrolites, i dont do either.

Each to there own.

Some lads never leave the house with out a mars bar

i feed 1/4 meal pasta+fish or meat at 4 pm, norm work the dog about midnight say 3-4 hours, then rub down when finish then feed norm amount of food when back at home, my dogs seem ok with that, just give them somthing in there belly for a hard night lamping as they will burn all there energy up quick with nothing in the body

Last season I experimented,,with giving the dog some grub halfway through a big night out ,,after the dog had cought around 30 rabbits,, I went in to a barn for a rest,,for about 30 mins,,, got out my small rucksack , about half a pint of milk,, in a bowl,, as well as a cheese sarnie,, and gave it to the dog,, I will be honest here,, I thought it perked her up,,,

Maybe it was sycosimatic,, and it was just the bit of rest,, but it seemed to work,,,, I know jim last year when he did the ton with earn stopped and fed him some grub half way through the night

A small amount of high fat/high carb/high protein will help a dog if it is out for many hours: something that won't sit heavy in their guts: I've used a small tin of mackerel in oil with a slice of brown bread in the past when out coursing all day. Seems to help: but just as important is to get a similar food into them as soon as they've stopped running for the day/night: once they've had a drink and stopped panting of course. Bad idea to let a dog drink a lot after eating when tired: likely to bring it all up again straight away. I always feed a small meal in the back of the van before we make the trip home: makes sense if you're a long way from home.
