Dan McDonough 560
I'm with Moorside on this. If you can't hunt wolves or at least bear legally, you'll have nothing to test them on. In the US, wolf seasons have opened back up but the anit's are fighting the "running with dogs" idea first because that's where they're getting the most success in fighting it. When they opened the wolf hunting two years ago, here in Wisconsin, a judge put an injunction on the provision that allowed running them with dogs. That kept the doggers away for the first year but the injunction ended and it was allowed this year. I know several groups of guys that are hunting them successfully and they are doing it with bear and coyote hounds for the most part. There is a guy that is breeding Kangels in Colorado, I think. His ads say that his dogs run around 35 m.p.h. I don't think that's nearly fast enough to catch a wolf but it's plenty fast enough to get to a bay and fight. I think that breed has some of the most powerful jaws of all of the canines. If you want to do it why don't you just move to Canada or the US? You might have a chance then. As for the UK, that would be like delivering the mail from a tank. Quote Link to post
foresterj 1,096
The magic ingredient needed for genuine and not just aesthetic breed creation or recreation for me has to be purpose/function, wether you took a Pomeranian (nee offence Fuji) or St.Bernard rabbiting and had enough of either eventually purpose would form type best to best would alter the beast dramatically to a functional type.I feel fortunate enough to have witnessed a virtual breed or type creation with Coursing Dogs over time, similarly with Black Terriers, both bred to perform a function not fill a standard.Using animals to aid livelihood would certainly expedite this a lot faster than money , ego or vanity eg Gordon Setters.Just an opinion but as always I might just be full o shite.atb. 1 Quote Link to post

keepdiggin 9,567
I'm no expert but when I've been on the mastiff forums they say that the Kangals bred in the USA are way softer then the ones that you see in Turkey. According to some Lab, & Golden retriever has been added to the Kangal bloodline in the USA. If It was me personally I would want to use the Alabai. But I'm no expert Quote Link to post

But I'm no expert my mate goes over to turkey few times a year got family over there, and the dogs up in the mountains would be I reckon the proper kangals, he told me before they don't like strangers , and would be very dangerous big feckers if you didn't have there owners with them.
