Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Well guys after last few days I have been fettling the hw97k .22 after Darryl from geordiehunterstv recent videos inspired me to fettle my rifles a bit more..and now its all back together ready for some plinking tomorrow to start off the new year doing what I love best! polished the piston and cylinder down to 1200grit wet and dry polished trigger sears and cocking slots aswel Spring was already done and is a shortened vmach spring I have fitted the delrin spacer and tophat and spring guide from the vmack kit aswel - from my old .177 hw97kt also I have fitted new-ish piston and breech seals from my old hw97kt that had been in for about 1000 shots before I fitted the vmack kit to it, so they are near enough brand new. so im expecting it to be a totally different rifle. . hopefully it will settle no higher than 11.6 with the hobbys then it will be pellet testing time well I will add some pics shortly and chrono results tomorrow happy new year lads 1 shot SKoT ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trigger lightly greased ready to go in The beast scoped again ready to go tomorrow took a bit of the bluing off the action just to see what it would look like. im going to spraypaint this rifle anyway. davyt63 1,845
Piston and cylinder after a quick polish with 1200 all the parts ready to be greased to go back in. newest piston seal on the left! new seals fitted and shineyness piston lightly greased Ready to go in in the second pic, there is evidence of grease in front of the old piston seal,as you can see the imprint of the transfer port.glad you have noticed that and decided to change it in the last pic,it looks like you have dark moly grease on the out side of the piston seal, rather than a clear grease ? the clear grease i use on piston seals,O rings, guide, pretty much any rubber/ delrin to metal moving parts. i am sure i have read somewhere that its to do with the minerals in the each grease, hence why one is for metal to metal moving parts, and t'other is for seals. i think its to do with drag as the moly wears it thins out, hence it could get in front of the piston, where as silicone grease is a more stable grease which stays rigid if you like, and don't separate, hence why you put it on the piston seal outside. hope you like my northern slang Edited January 1, 2014 by davyt63 Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
not a dig Scott ,just an observation now get them results up sharpish! Quote Link to post
treecreeper 1,136
so you wouldn't use moly on the piston or compression tube? Quote Link to post

davyt63 1,845
so you wouldn't use moly on the piston or compression tube? hi buddy i have just re-edited my post,as it sounded mis leading yes i would, some prefer a moly paste to a grease, but not on the piston seal Quote Link to post
treecreeper 1,136
get you now, I dont use silicone lube on the piston seal as you would end up mixing two different lubricants in the comp tube which can react. Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Davy the rifle was bought second hand and the right hand piston seal was the one that was fitted.. must have been dieseling when the first owner first got it. it had never been stripped until I got it and the seal was pretty bad a lot of evidence of dieseling! and a bad chopped spring! regarding greasing the piston seal, I had some other grease I used to se for the piston seal that I couldn't find in my shooting box :/ so its got just bisley gun moly in the little white tub on piston and a slight smear on the seal, obviously not infront of it still makes a slight twang maybe a piston liner is in order, but I thought the spring was a nice fit in the piston maybe when the new seals bed in it might go away. not dieseling and pretty consistent with the hobbys, need to find a favourite pellet then go anal and start weighing before chronoing LOL just going to calculate the results now and get them up in a min. im going to leave it how it is unless its over the limit then I will have to lower it!
