socks 32,253
a couple of months ago on one of the greyhound sites i started posting the progress of my new greyhound that was in training .... now for some reason a lot of the members seemed to think that i was working this pup to hard and they were quoting this injury and that injury etc etc .... me being me f****d them off and just got on with my training programm that i had devised for this pup .... well the pup is barely 17 months old and last night won his first race in a realy good time ... this is only the second race this pup has been in ..... the whole point to this thread is this ..... if we take our dogs to what we believe is their limit and dont ask anymore of them how do we know what else they have in reserve ??? i am a firm believer of progressive conditioning and push my dogs a little bit more whenever i think they are ready .... as most of you will have seen from variouse pics i have posted all of my dogs from terriers, lurchers, to greyhounds are in peak condition .... if i had listened to the namby pamby whinings of the so called greyhound experts would my 17 month old pup be winning races ??? ... NO he would by now maybe just getting around the sprint perhaps .... work your dogs hard lads and when the hard work looks easy for them then work them that little bit extra and see what they can do ..... however dont make the mistake of running your dogs into the ground ... progressive means just that .... progressive hard training will give you the conditioned dog that will for as long as you require .... or in my case will line your pockets .... thank you very much Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
that pup is nowhere near his limit yet i have taken him to about 75% of his capability ...... as i said at the end of my original post PROGRESSIVE MEANS SLOWLY ............. Quote Link to post
Guest Jonner
Some dogs can be got at early but some need holding back, the same applies with race horses etc, certain bloodlines are known for early maturing both physically and mentally and some come into there selves late.It isnt by fluke that the same names always have a tidy dog about them,a wealth of experience and common sense goes along way.
