Fixed Power Scope For 22Lr

i'm getting my new ruger 10/22 in jan, i've gone for a synthetic stock, stainless steel 18.5" barrel, sak mod, caldwell 9-13" bipod.

 

only part left is scope, i normally put hawke sport hd 3-9x40 on my rimfires, but never move the magnification from 6x, so i was wondering if there is any good 6x scopes around for hawke sport money (£100 is plenty).

i don't want to spend a fortune on the scope as it's going onto a pretty standard 10/22, (will have trigger lightened and bolt release mod, but nothing else)

i want the weight kept down as low as possible and don't want to spend huge money.

 

6x40, 6x42, 6x44, 6x50? it will be used day and night, i'm not much of a long range shooter, like to stay below 70yrds daytime and 45-50yrds at night. as i like head shooting with winchester subs.

I don't know what's out there at the moment but I use a fixed x6 mag redfield and it's a darling. Albeit has some age to it but I have seen them go for as little as 100 to 150 on the bay

Hi.

I have used variable power scopes for 40 years but last year I bought a Nikon Monarch 6 x 42 and it's all I need, the optics are great and no twiddly bits. I use it on rabbits out to 70 yards day or night and only take head shots.

I paid about £150 new but used ones are well within your price range (if you can find one), there are a few other good makes about and they are all decent scopes but stay away from the really cheap ones.

I've got a cheap Hawke 4-12 x50 on mine and its good, clear but for pure target work its not great as its variable.

I get around this by working out how the change in mag alters drop at given distances. They are in my head now so its ok.

Mine normally never strays off the 6x mark but a 3 inch target at differing between 50 and 100 yards at a changed mag up to max means a missed kill.................

I'm looking value, not cheap price. If I had to spend £400 to buy a leupold 6x42 then I would.

There is plenty of value around for £100, and as you have already suggested that is fine for most applications, especially on a semi.

 

Spend £400, or whatever you like, but I see no point on a 10-22!

theres no point spending big money buying an expensive scope to fit on a standard 22lr semi auto with 18" barrel.

hawke 3-9x40 will be going on to it if i don't get a fixed power

Take a look at this, there are one or two good scopes recommended here at the cheap end as well as the mid and high ends. Emphasis is on long range shooting but some of these have small lower end zooms.

 

At the cheap end, he seems to recommend SWFA:

 

 

BTW Hutchey if your zero changes with the magnification adjustment by a significant amount over short distances, then this its not a great scope. It should hold near to zero over short distances.

It depends where the focal point is in the first or second part of the scope.

It's not masses out but once you go past a zero of 50 yards:

 

4x power gives my drops on the half and full mils at 50, 86, 113, 137, 160, 182, 202 etc

 

8x power gives the same at 50, 70, 86, 100, 113, 125, 137

 

10x power 50, 67, , 91, 102, 113, 123,

 

12x power 50, 64, 76, 86, 95, 104, 113,

 

As Sniper 101 says in his videos (the 75 i've sn so far) and from my own live testing and recording of info it makes a certain amount of difference

I use a fixed 8x 52 but i mainly use mine for lamping and want to draw as much light threw the scope as possible

I can't fault the one I got cracking optics and build quality for the money, the rifle I put mine on suited the smaller scope and light gathering wasn't a real concern though I concede that the 50mm objective would transmit light better
