Gaj1612 99
Got a little terrier bitch that I've been trying to get to bush. I started off letting her play with a rabbit skin and drag it around then I took her up the mountain after I'd hid it in the ferns and told her to find it. With a bit of encouragement she had a wander and finally sniffed it out. So stuck with doing that for a while. Then I decided to take her ferreting with lurchers4life off here, and his jrt hoping she would click on to what she was doing. She's only been out twice ferreting, so not expecting too much yet. But she doesn't seem to be that interested. Is there anything I can do to bring her on? Thanks Quote Link to post
terryd 8,509
Has she seen rabbits bolting into nets ? may be let her have a little rag of a dead rabbit once out the net but if she has another terrier to follow sure it will come. When the ferret is in try and position her in a good spot to be close to the action Quote Link to post
Gaj1612 99
Yeah she did see one mate, and she give chase to one that popped up in the field, she did get her nose down for a bit after that but then seemed to lose interest again like Quote Link to post

terryd 8,509
Ok cheers, Is there anything I can do to get her to enter cover? Or does she need to chase one in? you could try and find some light cover that may hold a bunny or two rather than a 4 acre patch of gorse but I am sure it will all come together for you Edited December 28, 2013 by terryd Quote Link to post

Gaj1612 99
Thanks everyone, took her out earlier or a good 4 hour mooch with lurchers4life. She was out with three good bushers and startedto have a little go, so I'll stick with her and give her a lot more time. I'm also going to try and get her on some rats in the mean time. wirral countryman 2,110
Does the bitch use her nose, good nose is a must for a bushing terrier, I always watch a young one when crossing a line that a bunny has run to see if they pick up on it, atb, WM Quote Link to post
