Deker 3,478
Good morning, has anyone else had the displeasure of using the air arms field pellets? I was disappointed with them as soon as I opened the tin, so far iv rejected about 50 of them and shot about a hundred and threw the rest away, if they are not misshapen they have really sharp edges.... Now air arms were well up in there in my favourite manufactures list as I have an s410 and love it,I thought ,maybe it was just that particular tin so I opened the other one and exactly the same, anyone else found this? I'm of out now for a quick lamping session but the jsb will be filling my pellet pouch this morningAll these pellets that you've "dismissed and thrown away" try putting them in a tin and use them for plinking at targets you might be pleasantly surprised, failing that just use them when your using the crono where accuracy isn't needed Ps just bought three tins myself i did the same thing, chucked half a tin away, then the second tin i thought sod use um.. ermmm they all hit lol!! only the extremely bad ones were pap, but you'll be suprised hoe well they work with the lirrle dints in them.  I would be surprised if you notice any difference in performance, and if you are that worried about deformed skirts and sharp edges what are you using a pellet pouch? AA Fields are one of the most consistent pellets I have used over the years, if you are concerned about the tins you have and they are really that bad, take them back and complain. 1 Quote Link to post

audiguypaul 28
I think the problem is more to do with how they are treated after they have left the factory, ive bought a couple of single tins before that have been less than good when arrived through the post, i now buy 5000 at a time and collect them, the less post they get the better imo. 1 Quote Link to post
villaman 9,982
If the skirts are Misshaped ,by the time you have pulled the trigger the skirts will flair out any how Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
I got myself a tin of AA Fields this aft in .22 (batch number 32 30 6 2011) and some had damage to the skirts. I spread them out on a kitchen towel and removed about 50 or so pellets that were not too good. After gently pressing a 6mm ball bearing into their skitrs, all was then good. Only about five pellets were fit for the bin. I know it's a pain but it didn't take long and I only paid £8 for them from Swillington Shooting Supplies. Something to do whilst watching shite on the telly. 1 Quote Link to post
valboskie 39
there was an article a while back where someone fired perfectly shaped aa fields and ones that had bent skirts, there was no difference in the group sizes the pellet skirts are so thin and soft he said they reform to the shape of the barrel and rifling, as long as the dome is not damaged they are fine to use. atb david 1 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
there was an article a while back where someone fired perfectly shaped aa fields and ones that had bent skirts, there was no difference in the group sizes the pellet skirts are so thin and soft he said they reform to the shape of the barrel and rifling, as long as the dome is not damaged they are fine to use. atb david This is precisely the point I was making earlier. I have never had tins as bad as some suggest here, but instead of simply complaining or chucking half a tin away would it not be best to get for example 10 x 100% perfect pellets and 10 deformed pellets and test them against each other. How long will that take? My gut feeling is the difference will be negligible/nothing...a Blind test would obviously be favourite, so someone else would need to load the pellets so the tester could show no bias, or simply load two magazines (1 good, 1 bad) and mix them up yourself so you don't actually know which magazine you are firing. I don't have an issue, I have certainly picked odd pellets out of a tin and chucked them away, but they work for me, If I had the apparently high rate of badly deformed pellets suggested here I would test them myself.
