Over Under Or Side By Side?

Hi all im new to the site i started watching the local fox hunt from about 3 and was watching/ trying to help from 2

I loved going watching the waterloo cup (hopefully hare coursing will get brought back

I have a 22 bsa supersporter and a baikal shotgun got my certificate this year i have a border terrier and love being out in the field

 

Was just wondering which one you preferred over under or side by side

Well for me it depends on what the quarry will be,

 

I've used a Side by Side for all live shooting for a good few years now because its light, fits me very well and has shorter barrels,

 

On the other hand, I have two Over and Unders for clay pigeons for almost the opposite reasons, they still fit me but they're heavier to absorb more recoil and have longer barrels to cater for the different disciplines,

 

So for me, it's down to the job in hand, I like both

Yeah i know what you mean i think shooting with a over unders easier to shoot than side by side

Not sure about easier,

 

The O/U has to most people a more "pointable" feel with a clearer sight picture because you're only looking down one barrel,

 

With a S/S you more or less block out the bird with the barrels and then fire,

 

Swings and roundabouts, I don't find a well fitted S/S any more difficult to shoot than an O/U but some may,

I have 2 o/u and one s/s and I must say I love the s/s but I use one of my o/u more than either of the other 2 and reason being it fits, the s/s also fits very well but being a double trigger I find I can't fire the second barrel because of an old hand injury as the extended trigger guard seems to tw*t it in just the right place! Which is a shame as I really enjoy shooting s/s ;(

Currently shoot an over and under Beretta and a semi-auto Beretta, both have different jobs. I very much like my silver pigeon but I'm certainly not an advocate of the "get an over and under, they're easier to shoot" philosophy, it's just not the case. I would love a nice AYA No2 or Silver Hawk but no real need and I'm not into buying pretty shit on a whim. The advantage of a SxS is the weight, or lack of, and the pleasure of shooting a real traditional gun. But weight's never been something that has bothered me and I really want all my guns to chamber 3" magnums so the O&U is a natural choice. Just go with whatever you like...

A s/s for me too. Much lighter and nicer looking than a o/u. You can pick the spanish made s/s's up very cheap too if your just starting out or on a budget.

Aye but dont more clay shooters use o/u as they absorb the recoil so if you looking for a good days decoying etc a o/u will be kinder on the shoulder

He is only saying that because he cant hit a barn door with one side by side everytime, I am fortunate that I can shoot both, but I just dont like o/u, I love my Benelli semi for most things, but if I ever happen apon a nice 3" mag pistol grip side by side hammer gun with a flat rib, I just may be tempted to have it and use it for everything.
