oneredtrim 148
Seem to remember Met scoring a tidy one over the christmas period v trafford, mid '80's...jimmy case was not only vastly underated he could strike a ball Charlton-esque.
oneredtrim 148
I cant stand the fker , bu Ronaldo can hit a ball like nothing I,v ever seen , with that mad straight legged toe poky thing he does , the ball goes up , down round corners every thing and with unbelievable power , the best I,v ever seen . Earlier Rooney used to do it (on the fly) and hide it within his stride pattern, had it bang-off.

I think its almost unfair to compare the best of today with the best of years ago........today its more about understanding the technology of how to strike a football than pure technical skill.......anyone see that article in the paper Gareth Bale wrote about what part of the ball he strikes to get that movement etc.....very interesting. Astanley 11,568
Agreed Gnash , all the advantages are with todays players different ball, boots and pitches from yesteryear , a better understanding of diet and fitness , as you say , a better technical grasp of aerodynamics and power , but none of that seems to matter when you see someone belt in an unstoppable , dipping , bending 35 yarder , you just go fuuuuuk ! like youv always done . antg 1,783
theres so many that could strike a dead ball, now and from the past. i agree with gnasher, glenn hoddle could whack a one in. modern times, david beckham could hit one right enough. gerrard can hit a free kick too

baw 4,360
One of the best I've seen wear the famous hoops was van hojdonk(sp) I remember an of game, free kick just outside the box. Everyone knew where it was going, big amo decided to stand at the post, unusual for a direct free kick. Just before Pierre took it, amo changed his mind and ran out..... Bang, postage stamp get in, the Bhoys were bouncing.
THE STIFFMEISTER 16,098
Baw , Collins at ibrox was better , I remember it well
baw 4,360
Baw , Collins at ibrox was better , I remember it well Aye but just like Nakamura proved against Man U, Pierre could do it time and time again. Collins was a good player and maybe the foreigner always looking better is clouding my judgement. In saying that, Collins was always tanned looking
