Ham On The Bone

Recommended Posts

Ham freezes well cut a chunk off it wrap in foil, then in an airtight bag, if you can vacume pack all the better and stick it in the freezer. It will last 6 months no problem.

Cut in half honey gazed ham ready to be frozen.

Air dried ham (serrano/parma etc) will last years, outside the fridge, some of them can be up to 2 or more years old when you buy them... a 'normal' ham (boiled/baked) needs to be refrigerated or frozen. When I used to buy half a pig to process, I always used to make a ham from the back leg. Once it was cured/brined for the correct length of time, and then cooked, I would slice it and vaccuum pack it for freezing. It lasted ages. You don't need a vaccuum packer, just a food grade polythene bag with the air removed, then sealed with a twist wire..

Only me and her here now so haven't bothered with the half pig for ages now. HTH
