Lamping Dogs Through The Roof

Recommended Posts

How anyone could put a price on a dog they've had from a pup and brought on is beyond me.

My pup was a gift but going rate seems to be around the £150-250 mark.

So let's call it £200. Jabs, wormers, insurance probably £100.

She is 6 months old and I've had her since 6 weeks so she's cost me about £150 in food.

Time? I earn about £20 an hour at work. If I averaged out the time I've spent with this pup it would be about 3 hours a day. So that's about £7000 give or take.

So £7500 would be a break even.

Would I let her go for £7500? No thanks

meself I wud not buy a dog whats doing the bizz,,,,, I find getting a dog to a good standard, from scatch,,, his better than money can buy,,,, and go,s for lamping or coursing,,,,,,,,

Why should a coursing dog cost more than a lamper ??? .........

Exactly the prices are far higher for a coursing dog because there is money to be made in the field BUT that doesn't mean that the honest hard working lamping dog that's putting away 40's and 50's two

If i was offered the best lamping dog in the country for free i would turn it down no matter how desperate i was... you just can't beat bringing a pup on and watching it progressing and doing well..the sense of achievement is something else..you will loose all that when buying a older dog in but some folk have too because they can barely train there kid's let alone a good dog.. :D

Got to agree with that, My lurchers have always been from pups and always been with me till they dropped. In the past I'd taken on some older cockers and springers to either train for the owners or when people had given up on them and had made reasonable dogs out of them but the bond wasn't their, they never felt like 'my' dog.

My old lurcher bitch is coming up 7 and been here since 6 weeks, we just know what each other is doing and very little needs to be said.

My young bitch is an ulcer inducing twat, in time she will come good I'm sure, but I have a real bond with her I don't think I would get from a 'made' dog and as millet said the satisfaction.

Your right too Gaz, if we put a realistic financial costing on our dogs you wouldn't dare keep them let alone sell them!

Good post that mate. And spot on aswell.

I've got a bitch here now which I brought in as an adult from background unknown. Had 2 and half very good seasons with her. Plus the summers mooching about. She's hardly left my side. But the bond just isn't there. She's a nervous bitch anyway which annoys me, I only have to raise my voice and she cowers. And I've never given her a good hiding.

I just don't feel much for her at all.

Yet my pup is 6 months old, I've had her from 6 weeks old and the bond is incredible. She looks at me lovingly and I feel a lot for this little bitch.

There is always a market for a ready made jukel, the amount of folk around that don,t have the knack or commitment to source a decent pup, then put in the time and effort to bring it to fruition. There are many lads about more than willing to part a nugget from his/her brass,if they cannot put in the time and effort with a pup then they deserve to line the peddlars pocket. At times, because of circumstance, the odd diamond will become available,£500 is still far to much to lay out for a mutt, unless you want it?.

I would not get one older than 7wk's old let alone 9mth as you won't have a clue what has happened to him/her in those vital few week's of training... but if you are happy with him that's all that matter's..

Why though? For the sake of 7 months why not get it at 8 weeks old?

Pups are like sponges in them first few months, yours could of spent it's first few months locked in a shed.

tbh mate i wanted something to go straight out with my other dog had just been knocked over so thought 9 month pefect age can take him out on bunnies and by the time hes 18month to 2yr itll be like hes been here all his life anyway you can tell hes not been batterd or mis treated by the way he is ive seen dogs that have been batterd and are scared soon as a raised voice or load bangs he goes out with the 12 n doesnt flinch when i raise my voice doesnt cower
