whipbed 42
bought one years ago from vet for old dog with the agreement that if it didn,t work i,d get a refund minus 10percent . so thought why not? didn,t beleive in all that stuff and the plaeceabo affect doesn,t work on a dog . well it did work and gave the dog a new lease of life, apparently the collar i had didn,t work on all dogs but in this case it did. this was proved correct when i tried it on another dog years later and i didn,t notice any effect. so i would say give it a shot even if you are scecptical as i was it can,t do any harm 1 Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/magnets-and-blood-flow/ http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/fields-alternative-medicine-and-physics/ Did I hit a nerve or two? Do people that believe in tooth fairy type magic dislike ridicule? I’ve said before I don’t post to be popular but to be honest. I try very hard to help when people post with their dogs heath problems. In those cases my answers are based on my 40 odd years experience with dogs along with a knowledge anatomy/physiology etc. But sometimes... So call it ridicule if you will but many people believe in fairies and they have as good a case as those that believe in magic bracelets etc, both have only there own perceptions to prove their cause and both fly in the face of the available evidence. Magnets have been investigated and as far as the little ones in collars etc go they have been found to have no effect above the placebo. If they worked there would be a difference in the patients outcomes, there isn’t! ( beware mild ridicule) You see you don’t need to know how something works to test if is it has an effect. Now back to a little sanity…… Are any of you really saying that there is a wondrous treatment for just about every ache and pain possible and modern medicine/science is completely ignoring it!!!! God sake take a look at your heads! As to dogs don’t get the placebo effect! Yes they do but even more so is the effect on the owners! (Beware sarcasm alert) But that’s all very basic stuff and anyone with even a little common sense would see that. My distain and sarcasm should come across, but in truth it is not the people fooling themselves but rather those who promote the falsehoods that are the real targets of my distain. “It is the sin, not the sinner, that I hope is the target of some of my loathing. The SCAMs ….. are based on fantasy and the endless ability for people to fool themselves and others. And if you spend your time treating illness with fantasy you could end up bleeding to death in the middle of the night.”( Dr Mark Crislip ) And finally why do people continue to believe in a wondrous treatment that’s denied by science and medicine in spite of evidence to the contrary? Evidence that shows it to be no more than placebo, regression to the mean and the normal healing process. http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2008/10/19/fighting-cognitive-dissonance-the-lies-we-tell-ourselves/ http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Magnetic_therapy Edited December 31, 2013 by sandymere Quote Link to post

Regarding your sarcasm, as anybody told you its the lowest form of wit, and if wit came out as shit, you'd be constipated lol 2 Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
Lol and personal attacks are a sure sign of a lost argument. Personally i don't take offence, I've no need you see being right has its advantages, it gives me a moral superiority lolololol. Alas the difference between us is that I would believe they worked if I was given good evidence to show a positive effect, unlike yourself I like to keep an open mind after all science moves on but at present all the evidence shows no real effect. dirty twister 31
I wouldn't in my wildest dreams try and argue with you Sandy mere With your 'big' words and rapier sharp wit and condescending humour I would stand no chance! I'm a just a working class man who likes working his dogs But I know my dogs and I know that my dogs have always benefitted from the porta-mag Same as other dog men I know I would always recommend using one Instead of reading 'evidence' on the internet try one and make your own mind up. 4 Quote Link to post

sandymere 8,263
lol., them same men that told me vitamin E made em run faster, treat mange with old engine oil and all the other rubbish. I make my mind up by looking not blindly believing. It’s called critical thinking. Just one of you magnet experts tell me why aren’t there any of these magic bracelets etc in A+E or on prescription???? the same reason there isn’t any crystals ?? I'll not hold me breath. Ps I had a troglodyte make its home in the out house last year! Quote Link to post
