dogmad riley 1,347
Hi merry Xmas all, I have a saluki whippet greyhound 16 months old 23" tts out ferreting can't fault him, marks stays alert, obedient, etc. Catches daytime bunnies no problem. When i take him out on the lamp he cant catch anything, I am giving him easy slips on sitters way out from cover and getting as close as I can to give him a chance but he can't seem to connect with them he either overshoots them or when he had chance to grab them doesn't. Is it down to him being young still? I know he has a hell of alot of learning to do but shorly he should have got one by now on the lamp. I have one set back as I don't have an experienced lamp dog to show him the ropes. So pretty much learning on his own. Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks Quote Link to post

Al keep at with him. Do you think the type of ground could be easier as running him on cattle pasture at the min? Tried some soft farm ground but the rabbits were abit lamp shy and forgot the filter. Thanks for the comments guys atb Quote Link to post

R.A.W 1,987
It sounds like a confidence issue thats all...................It may sound stupid but worth a try but Tie a rabbit skin to a length of baling cord and then to a long hazel pole. Ask a friend to pop over when it's dark and hold the lamp on the skin while you move it about then slip the dog( only a few yards away) . Let the dog mouth the skin with plenty off praise ..................... don't let the dog get to hard mouth with it keep the session pretty short repeat a few times then take the dog out on the lamp. Don't panic thou mate day time bunnies are much harder than night timers so you have a good little dog on your hands good luck and I hope it helps Quote Link to post
