Alsteds 2
Hi all, After my daughter saw the hounds at the game fairs I've told her I'd take her to a proper meet but haven't really got a clue where to start so have a couple of questions. Could anybody tell me where the Cheshire Boxing Day meet will be? Done a bit of googling and found it's been held at The Swan Hotel in Tarporley in previous years but nothing of where it will be this year. I'm assuming it will be at the same place this year but if someone could confirm this it would be great. Secondly, is it as simple as turning up and watching? I've never been to a hunt and know very little about what goes on apart from the obvious. My assumption is that everyone turns up to the meet, sees the horses and hounds for a bit then the hunt and followers head off for the actual hunt. As a family we ride and I work dogs so that side is interesting to me so the hunt seems a good thing to do as a family in the future. Any help and advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance. DIDO.1 22,585
http://www.mfha.org.uk/information/press-releases/boxing-day-meets-2013/ boxing day is mainly just a turn out for the public in most places with hounds taken for a little hack out afterwards. If you want to follow in future contact the hunt secretary of the hunt you want to follow and expect to provide referances, its a pain but the way it is at the moment, as people try and make false claims about hunts activities. gonetoearth 5,144
The green collars are not the most welcoming of hunts. Try the holcome Great pack for a ride out and wont break the bank Quote Link to post
Alsteds 2
Thanks for the replies fellas. Dido, all I'm after is a meet and greet for now, just want to dip my toes so to speak, not planning on riding or following just yet so the Boxing Day meet should be perfect really. Gone to earth, like above I'm only after going for a look for now and get my daughter out to see the horses and hounds so would the cheshire hunt be welcoming for the Boxing Day meet or would it be better to try the Holcome Pack you have suggested? Thanks again. Quote Link to post
DIDO.1 22,585
go to any meet for boxing day as most will be ok on that big pr day, just pick the nearest and show your support. if you want to visit the holcombe at a later date drop me a pm, i cant be responsible for sending out meet details but i'll point you in the right direction. have a good christmas. 1 Quote Link to post
Alsteds 2
Cheers Dido, Reckon I'll try the Cheshire on Boxing Day as I think it's the closest and if it's something we might pursue I'll ask for for further details on more welcoming hunts. Fair enough on not giving meet detail out, it's a shame but it's the world we live in. Thanks again and have a good Christmas. Quote Link to post
