instead of trying to take the piss gaz give him some advice

Main thing is you've stuck by the dog and seem happy. That in itself is an achievment i'd say.

Gas can't give advice. He knows fook all. Dranny if your after any advice or a night out on bunnys pm me mate I'll see if I can help, no promises pal but iv helped sort a few dogs if this breeding wit

Cheers pal ye he can shift, I do simulated causing in the summer and he does well when he is fit.

He struggles in small fields to get up to speed but he's having the best season of his life so far. He was really getting me down when hunting up fields after a slip on lamp, but now I got him on the e shock collar he comes straight back and he is bang on now.

I got him when he was 13 months old he and didn't have any basic training. He would come back everytime during the day but once slipped he just would hunt up the hole field I would stand waiting till he decided to come back tryed treats and praise but he still did it everytime the e collar was the last chance and I was so relived it worked because he was my first lurcher and I like him but he was just making me so mad. And the retrieving sometimes is getting better. But still kills and leaves them in middle of the field don't really no how to improve it only give him loads of praise when he does retrieve

Trust me I ad tryed everything he just wouldn't come back till he had scared everything away I only ad to use the electic shock setting a couple of times then now I just vibrate it and he noes to come back, it has improved both our nights out as he gets more runs down the beam.

if you could try and get him on eaiser rabbit to start with, and he could catch you would stop alot of the hunting up. My pup was like that at 1st, so i try to pick the easy rabbit for him, his last catch was 4 on the bounce, so he comes right back.Once they catch few they will trust you and work with the lamp, get them catching

He is catching well he got 5 out 5 runs a few weeks ago. The catching wasnt the problem it was his recall he would catch one kill it drop it then hunt the field up in the dark. None of that now and he is starting to bring them back he got one tonight about 150 yards away I brought it straight back but 3 nights ago he only brought it half way back. Last week he was straight out of motor jumped wall caught it back over wall and put it in the motor I was amazed.

For a 13 month old untrained dog I reckon you're doing alright mate. In 40 years of keeping and hunting lurchers I've taken on a couple of similar ones so I know what you're dealing with. Sooner or later he may well realise that coming back to you will get him another run then you can ditch the E-collar.

It sounds like he'll get the retrieving too but if he doesn't then maybe look into tug training.

I think his retrieving will get sorted eventually as I can see a big improvement this season, I race him in summer on simulated coursing and everyone used to laugh when I ad to run up the other end of the course because he would lay down and try get his muzzle off but I went to one about 5 weeks ago and he came back as fast as he went away and come right back to me. And I only vibrate it and he noes to come back. We both out alot more and I'm not getting mad with him we are catching loads more rabbits and both enjoying our sport.
