Two very different types of sighthound, neither is ultimately better than the other, their will be top class whippets and top class saluki ,, very different attributes but both serve a purpose and are enjoyed so thats summat

is there any footage of the grand course, read about it online and in books, love to go there one day too watch it, heard a saluki called darius done well in it , fair play tonthe whippets for winning as well, hard terrain for certain

Tomo the British Brown Hare for me is the greatest test of a running dog there is.

Imo

Maybe your right,,, but with out any experience of all the other 30 odd hares around the world,,, how do you know?

And just to be pedantic,,, it's the European brown hare ;)

I see the grand course includesslipping more than one dog on quarry, end of debate for me, seriously doubt even the best whippet could match saluki hare for hare aint got the feet or stamina for the longer haul

Quite right arcticgun, whippets havent the stamina for the longer haul, and as much as i like the saluki and their crosses, they wouldnt suit the land i run, i have been offered this week a saluk x pup, no thanks i say, im happy with what i have, a prolific pot filler, enjoy your dogs, cos i most certainly do

Yes the dogs are slipped in 3s.

The whippets are quite large, I wouldn't doubt there is a fair amount of greyhound in these ones.

It was a damn fun and completely legal time for some good dog folk to get together and chase Mr. Long Ears with they're breed of choice.

Arcticgun, you are right. When the whippets were done running the rabbit, you could see how tired and out of breath they were from the course.

When the salukis got done running a rabbit, they were not near as beat as the whippets, ready to run again and again.

Yesterday was my first time seeing a Saluki in person, and I was blown away by how far these dogs could run and not even look tired.

Ivebeen has no reason to lie, he didn't have a dog in the meet. He's new to all of this so you might have to ask him specific questions. Here is link to a NOFCA page that lists all of the Grand Course qualifiers with links to the results pages back to the 2001-2002 season. This should answer some questions.

Why not slip only two dogs in these comps

It will be easier to judge and a better more sporting course altogether.

I totally agree.
