suluki 2
yes mate poacher9991 has got papers for him and hes cruise of shildon line! Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
Have you tried running him with another dog? A bit of competition will often encourage them to take hold. Maybe try a rabbit skin on a line and stick, get him fizzed up a bit. How old was he when first started on game? Quote Link to post
suluki 2
hes tryed every thing. he duz run better with another dog but he still wont pick up! hes tryed tying a dead rabbit to a dog lead and runing around with it, agen he'l chase but wont touch. Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
How many times has the dog run game with and without another dog? When was he first entered? I can't believe a saluki from these lines is'nt killing, yes you'll get some that are better than others but to have one that won't pickup. Of course some will take longer to get the idea faster than others but you seem resigned to the fact that the dog ain't going to make anything? I would forget the dead rabbit at this stage just try a skin so it's light and can be whipped around make a real game of it with plenty of praise. Quote Link to post
suluki 2
its worth a try il tel him! but the fella he bought him off said not to rush things with him. he said salukis are slow coming on? he's got the makings of a good dog its just the strike!! Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
My own experience of my Salukis are that the are very fast a coming on, all mine have been self entered from 5 mths old. I'm not saying that is how it should be thats just how it as happened with mine and the pups I breed. The best time to teach them to use their mouths is when they are young enough to be wanting to play all the time the problem with them around 12mths onwards is that they might have started grow out of playing and do so without learning crucial hunt techniques. IMO the worst thing you can do is leave a saluki at home and do nothing with it until 12/14 mths before starting any work as some would have it. Keep us posted on his progress.
