irishnut 297
The 22lr is possibly the best weapon for the best type of hunting. Rabbit hunting is real sport Quote Link to post
paulus 26
It is heartening to see the old faithful .22lr, is on virtually everyones list! it will be very hard if not impossible to better its been with us since the mid 1800`s The first .22 rimfire as we know it was invented by Smith & Wesson in 1857, and could be said to be a lengthened Flobert cartridge. andyf 144
.22 RF Sako (vermin and stones that ask to be shot) 22.250 Ruger #1(Fox) 270 Browning A Bolt (Deer) 7x57 Heym (Deer) That's the ones I've got above, and very nice they are, BUT Then another because 'I just would want one a '38 Special' lever action with iron sights, and a long tube mag (Steel swinger targets, that go 'clang') Oh yes please. HerneTheHunter 50
I'd have somewhat different lists for target and hunting. This is a Hunting forum, so my choice reflects that. I may be wrong but I think most African countries specify .375 as a minimum. So even though the .338 Lap mag is more than powerful enough, it doesnt tick the big game box. I didn't find this 338LM too unwieldy, honest! Similarly, the 50BMG, while great for long range and anti-materiel, might possibly be hard work and slow to mount on dangerous game! Still want both calibres, though. So my list: .22LR .243Win 7RemMag .300WM .458Win Mag To a certain extent, choice determined by availability of ammunition in country of intended use. You don't need a 50BMG for that; I saw a documentary called Police Academy and a guy called Tackleberry said a 44Magnum could crack the engine block of a truck. He was (nearly) a police officer and everything! ;-) 1 Quote Link to post

seprim 32
22LR, 20VarTarg, 243 Win, 308, 338lm I haven't shot the 20VarTarg but its small case, light load, economy of reloading and long range accuracy attracted me to it. I haven't shot 338lm but it seems to be enough gun... Andrew Quote Link to post
