Another Help that needs help

Hello to all I'm here in the US and I'm new to air guns as well as to this site. I was thinking about going to the local sporting good store and getting a break barrel .177 or .22(about $150 USD) but I was told that they are not accurate. Any truth to this? If so Where can I get an air rifle .177 or .22 that is accurate for about $150 USD. Scope would be nice but not necessary. The Fps need to high enough to take rabbits and squrriels out to about 30-40 yrds with one shot... Thanks

break barrels will centainly do the job, and theres those on here that will prob say to 40yds easy, id prefer to say 30/35, remember head shots only, will mean 1 shot only

loads of different makes to choose from, go to your gun shop and hold a few, youll find one that "feels" right for you

Forget a break barrel air rifle, your in the US for gods sake, they give gun licenses to 6month old babies over there ( It was in the news a couple of months aog) . Go out any get yourself a proper rifle.

You are funny I have a few "REAL" rifles I want an air rifle. I know I can down a rabbit with my .22 mag, .410ga and my 12ga. I have a lot of Squirrels and coons and possums in my area and I don't think my neighbors would like me shooting a .22win mag all day. But thanks for your reply.

 

Now I went to a couple of my local shops and for the most part what we have readily available in my area is Gamo Summit and Crosman all in .177 cal and they are all around the $200 USD range. Should I get one of those or should I wait and order offline?

I use a GAMO CFX in .22 for rabbits and rats and it throws out a medium heavy pellet at just over 1000 fts and it is a nice gun (even if it is a bit heavy) for shooting rabbits etc. I do however have a scope on it as I find it easier to get them at the 40 yard mark that way, but I used it with iron sights for over a year as well and it worked to.

Gamo's are ok , but i would keep looking , you may have to spend a few more $.

which guns can you buy on the net over there .

 

for a long range plinker/hunter i like the HW97 underlever and the HW80 break barrel .

Thanks guys for the info. I can order just about anything off the net but...I didn't want to to spend a lot of money this rifle will just be used in the backyard mostly for pest. I just wanted something with power and something that I didn't have to pump 5 or 6 times. We're having a gun show this weekend I'll try there. If they don't have anything I'll try the GAMO since they where in every shop I went to yesterday and they are priced right.

The thing is : that in the UK all air rifles have to be limited to 12 lbs . Here where I live and where you are the laws are not that critical. I do at the moment use a BSA ultra that a friend of mine shipped over when he moved out here and it is a bit " on the soft side " at 12.4 but it is quite accurate and will put down a rabbit as well. Next to the Gamo springer that I have it is very much on the low power side of things as I usualy have a exit hole with the Gamo as well where as it has not happened to me that I have one with the 12,4 Ultra and then have to find the pellet inside the rabbit as I feed them to my snakes and I don´t want them to eat hidden lead.
