inan 841
In september....must be a world beater When would you suggest he starts getting his dog fit for the forthcoming season? Most people I know are starting to get a few runs for their dogs, they wont get fit standing around in a kennel. Bushing , lamping and Bike work will get your dog fit without running hares in early September. Quote Link to post

If you do all you said and theirs nowt rong with it, then come January, put on to a strong winter hare, the dog is baffled with its speed, ect, puts it off. Confidence means a lot, as you most likely know. Frank. Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
Not everybody wants to do bushing or lamping with their dogs, most of the folk I know who keep out and out hares dogs are not interested in running rabbits. Quote Link to post

Preban the coursing clubs I was in used to start their season at the time of the Autumn Exhibition Show at the East Of England Showground ,that was the 14th of October, the hares are a little stronger the days are cooler and the ground is softer. No need to wait for January,Ive seen pics on this site of hares caught in the summer ,when you query it the posters call you an anti ,then when responsible dog men agree with you ,they get all defensive and claim it was an "accident" ,if so why post the pic? its nothing by way of a feat is it? Im not referring to the current poster ,but you see where Im going. Quote Link to post

Most of the folk I know who keep out and out hare dogs dont run them on big ears till at least the second week in October ,when the hares are a bit stronger ,and the ground is softer. shaun v 3
this time of year, i would only run pups, i wouldnt consider running an experienced dog , i would rather wait for the better ground to reduce the chance of injurys. i gave my pups there first run on friday tea time and the ground then was just the say runnable, the 2 pups got a couple of runs and had there first kill, also had alot of bother with farmers which are still flat out getting the tatties in, but the serious stuff will start in november  Quote Link to post
shaun v 3
ones just gone 12mths and the other which is out of baz's dog i think is 14mths, he will put me right if i'm wrong .ive also got a bitch which is 18mths out of a dog called luke, (charlie x deacon) to a bitch from micky drews stuff i said before that i only had 2 pups in but i also had the 12mth old one but at the time he hurt himself badly on a rabbit and it was 50/50 if he was going to make it mentally, physically i got him back perfect, but ive slowly brought him back, letting him watch alot of kills (rabbits) but with confidence i can say he will be ok after watching him run, he's bred out of a dog called sam which is out of my old dog flint to a merle n eve bitch off fat gary , to joes black n white bitch which has alot of similar breeding in her. Millet at the end of the day we are all adults, (most of us) and we no the consiquences of being caught, so some idle banter or bragging on here cant be classed as being caught coursing, its just some guys having abit of craick , so chill and roll a spliff unless you fancy a dog that can catch a hare lol Quote Link to post
