Joe67 239
what amount of time(max) do you keep dog in a crate, how longs to long?
Gaz_1989 9,539
I had a terrier once that would happily spend all day in a crate. You could leave the door open and she wouldn't come out. She loved it. My lurcher gets pissed off after a few hours and starts trying to escape. How long are you planning on crating for? paulus 26
unless its a pup indoors then i dont see the need for crates

fireman 10,934
My dogs would wreck my house if they weren't crated,to many kids shoes have been chewed for me to risk the feckers loose at night and used in the right way a crate is a dogs bed and santuary from kids etc not a place to put a told off dog.
pip1968 2,490
i have a 6 week pup crated up inside now its a bit of a handful tbh its a half x bull grey and has bags of energy,so it gets out till its tired and fed then back in till it starts screaming to come out but does settle well in the night to my relief lol

Country Joe 1,411
My pup has already chewed two pairs of shoes, slippers etc, and if left alone would have a field day, if going out during the day the max I would leave him is three hours, and he is fine with is, and sleeps all night, he shows no signs or reluctance to go in, if you want to bring a pup up, in the house, and give him the run then that's up to you, I know of a lot of horror stories, chewed table legs, wallpaper ripped, and one Lab who ripped off kitchen skirtin boards. I crated my previous Whippet, and it did no harm work wise or his mental well being.
birddog 1,354
i use them for control, teaching boundaries for wee pups, they soon adopt them as sanctuaries, a safe haven, they're own space. every pup will be different and the age you do away with it will vary, my 2 have the run of the house now but with an open bed where the cage used to be, with one 6 and the other 3 my cage is covered in dust in the loft ......but may be dusted down soon
mushroom 13,179
Used to leave mine in all day (3 dogs for at least 10 hours) but the feckers kept escaping so in the end I suspended it from the ceiling like a medieval cage. Drilled a hole in one corner with a bucket beneath to catch the piss never any problems
