Dog Crates/cages

Recommended Posts

I had a terrier once that would happily spend all day in a crate. You could leave the door open and she wouldn't come out. She loved it.

My lurcher gets pissed off after a few hours and starts trying to escape.

How long are you planning on crating for?

My dogs would wreck my house if they weren't crated,to many kids shoes have been chewed for me to risk the feckers loose at night and used in the right way a crate is a dogs bed and santuary from kids etc not a place to put a told off dog.

i have one in the house that has a bed at the bottom of the stairs and a foot stool she sleeps on when i am in the living room, if we go out she just sleeps, then theres 2 dogs in kennels and runs that wont step foot inside the back door without being asked even if i go out and leave the door open. their run door is never closed, i dont even know why i have runs

My pup has already chewed two pairs of shoes, slippers etc, and if left alone would have a field day,

if going out during the day the max I would leave him is three hours, and he is fine with is, and sleeps all night, he shows no signs or reluctance to go in, if you want to bring a pup up, in the house, and give him the run

then that's up to you, I know of a lot of horror stories, chewed table legs, wallpaper ripped, and one Lab who ripped off kitchen skirtin boards.

I crated my previous Whippet, and it did no harm work wise or his mental well being.

i use them for control, teaching boundaries for wee pups, they soon adopt them as sanctuaries, a safe haven, they're own space. every pup will be different and the age you do away with it will vary, my 2 have the run of the house now but with an open bed where the cage used to be, with one 6 and the other 3 my cage is covered in dust in the loft ......but may be dusted down soon

Used to leave mine in all day (3 dogs for at least 10 hours) but the feckers kept escaping so in the end I suspended it from the ceiling like a medieval cage. Drilled a hole in one corner with a bucket beneath to catch the piss never any problems

she first had the kitchen to her self to sleep etc but then started to chew the cupboards corners even though she has plenty to chew on lol.. so at the moment shes sleeping in the crate, out for a walk in morning back in after fed, out the the back a few times through day and fed then returns to crate, walk at night, fed and back in crate.. hopfully once she gets older wont need the crate as much, cant be trusted at the moment...

getting it tight at moment from other half, people walking in and saying its a shame etc... had a google search on it and getting different answers, as you guys know first dog, id rather ask than f**k things up later so here i am asking thl dog men
