Starting Up Again In Oswestry..

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. After a few years of not doing a lot in the fieldsports scene ( having a kid can do that) I'm looking to get back in the fields...

I have recently retired from the police and so find myself with spare time...

Have to say that due to my old job permissions were never that hard to come by and have relatives in the animal feed industry. However, I have always found that I enjoyed my sport more when in good company.

I would like to meet up with like minded individuals from my area to enjoy some of the passtimes available to us in Shropshire and the borders.

My first experiance with hunting was a chap who took me out with either and airgun or shotgun and his Gripton terrier. Those from Staffs or Telford way may remember Bert Gtipton, whom I once met. That jack russel was a cracking little dog, who entered to fox until 10/11 years of age.

Ive always had an intrest in airguns and have owned probally close to 100 or more in the past 30 years... From BSA Cadets with fixed iron sights, to State of the art PCP,s. Have a bit of a thing for Theobens.... Currently have a very nice Feinwerbau 127 and a BSA MMC Ultra. Very different guns but both 1st class hunters.

I also have a sgc and have in the past held a section 1 cert. Would consider having it again if i felt it would be useful.

Have owned several lurchers in my time from greyhound/alsation crosses to my current pedigree whippets.. very different dogs, but the whippets are not as delicate as people think. The dog is a Laguna bred line and very smart. The bitch from show lines but 27lb of muscle and teeth. He will only touch fur, she will take anything she can. This has included several of my chickens and recently a rather fat wood pigeon that couldnt get off the lawn in time.

I have enjoyed days as a guest on driven pheasant shoots and enjoyed shooting 40+ rats on a session at a run down farm.. Nights out in the early hours lamping foxes and a few hours just wandering along the hedgerows with the ferrets and a .410.

I'm fortunate to live in a rural area and so used that as an excuse to purchase a small 4x4. To be fair we were snowed in several times last winter, so was needed really.

Really looking to meet up and get to know like mined people in and around the area I live to give me the push i need to get back into fieldsports in a big way...

Welcome to the forum, neighbour :)

A good introduction. you have an array and experience of hunting, it'll be interesting to hear how you get on :)

I'm in Wellington, Telford. Also, got a pal here too looking for a hunt if you'd consider 2 novice air gunners?

Both got all our own equipment and insured, so all were missing is the permission.

Be happy to hear from you anyway, otherwise I look forward to reading up on the forum about you and your journeys.
