It has really started striking hard here round Cambs/suffolk borders. Coming across swellings and pustules larger than I've ever seen before. The wet mild weather we've had has meant the virus vectors are doing very well and differ strains of mixy are getting spread all over the shop. The result is rabbits are getting hit by strains they've not yet been exposed too.

Just hope there is enough of a breeding population left immune that can bounce back quickly.

my hubby was saying that every 7 yrs a new strain is released, as the few survivors develope immunities which are then passed on to young, so the next 6 yrs the occurance of mixy slows a lil each year until the new strain is released, and the proceding spring you see a more virulent spread of it. mind you i've no idea if this is fact or rumor...

I think, their is some truth in this, as a place i know of, has had a big rabbit explosion over the summer. Speaking to the farmers, they said, its due for a mxy outbreak, as apparently, it hits them hard, every 6 to 8 years. The farmers have noticed this, over the years.

I see it every year on a couple of bits of permission i hunt.Usually seems to appear around late August/early September, then seems to settle down later in the season, with one or two of the rabbits we take showing the healed up wounds from the myxy.

Went out yesterday evening to recce a bit of permission where i haven't seen any infected rabbits for over ten years, and found these three poor feckers within 50 yards.

Luckily up my neck of the woods there`s not too much mixy kicking about . Were there is signs of it it seems to be inclose to the town`s out in the countryside itseems to be champion. On sunday went for a walk around 1of the farms ive got and there was plenty of working warrens only problem u still can`t get in to half of them vegatation hasn`t died back enough. Also found plenty of fox sets it`s like an explosion of everything is going on give it a couple of weeks and i will soon be cracking. Happy hunting folks fv

some of the ground we hunt has mxy all year round but it dose not seem to affect the numbers of healthy rabbits we take not long been in and we have done a bit of ferreting accounting for 26 healthy rabbits and we have never seen any mxy today at all just loads of healthy rabbits and i mean loads
