Looking After Boots

Recommended Posts

When I get in from hunting I get all the muck off them by scrubbing them in a bucket of water then let them dry naturally ie. not beside a fire or radiator and when they're dry just give them a good polishing . I reckon if you keep enough polish on leather it's as good as dubbin. But I do give them a coating of dubbin now and again.

Fell boots are not water proof so when I used to dig 5 or 6 days a week I used to have 2 pairs, 1 pair was at home drying while I was out.

Top tip, chuck the fell boots in the bin and move out of the last century. There's tons of cheap gortex boots about theses days.

The best wax I've found for leather is Renapur, it'll have them water proof and looking tidy and new within a coat.

Fell boots are Great, they are the real deal, use Mars Oil, or filsons wax Dubbun from America, they give life to the leaher and let it breathe again.

Dilly dog, have you ever tried a few monhs of solid fell boots on your feet, they are unbeatable for what they are made for, and will outlast all the lowas, meindl etc.

They are even nice round the house, each boot unique to your feet.

You must have soft tender feet Dillydog.

Lad I hunt with buys those gortex boots at anything up to 190 quid a pair and tends to get a couple of seasons out of them.

A pair of Fell Boots could do you up to 20 years. That makes them IMO a cheap pair of boots.

When your wearing gortex boots, if the conditions are bad gaitors are a good idea, small stones and stuff can get into the boot and rip the gortex lining, wearing gaitors with boots will help the gortex lining remain waterproof for longer
