Any Suggestions For A Cqb Scope For A .22Lr Hk416 D10Rs

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, Ive just joined the forum after doing some research online and this site popped up about a Leapers 3-9x32 Bug Buster scope. I am getting an HK416 D10RS in .22LR and will primarily be using it on the range, however will also be using it on the odd close range pest control outing, as an alternative for my .17HMR. My question is has anyone used one of these, or have an alternative that they would recommend as the rifle is a carbine so am looking for a compact 'CQB' style scope that preferably has an illuminated reticle. I have searched all over and can only find one or 2 suppliers which are £105 and over. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Why not, it's perfectly legal. If that's what he wants leave him to it.

Because barring shooting it on a range which may be a bit of fun he says he wants to do some pest control which I assume will be outdoors, yes its up to him and yes its legal I don't dispute that but I wouldn't want to be walking round a field with a Heckler and Koch tactical rifle if ever the Police armed response unit turn up.

Each to their own I suppose, I just don't get the need for this tactical look :hmm:

I quite agree, whatever it is dressed up in it is still a .22 rimfire popgun, having it look like a prop from starship troopers, will not make it more powerful or accurate, walking round with one of these is a splendid invitation to have its big brother pointed at your head, and ordered to lie in the shite.

Where as a black synthetic stock .308 with tele sight, sound mod and bipod looks completely innocent? LOL

Show one of them to any member of the general population and they'll say it's a 'sniper rifle'! LOL

Which indeed it is,however if an armed response team turn up and see a stalker with rifle slung over his shoulder, rather than some idiot walking around with his sheep in wolfs clothing, that would not look out of place on a video game, they will be more inclined I would suggest, to approach in a calm manner, and you are less likely to have a series of red dots appear on your chest.

I am totally with that, BUT, it is a free world.

For Target work there are much better, and for field work there are much better, and on a Technical note, I believe these Rambo lookalikes are designed to work with HV .22lr, which is not the best plan for Close range Pest Control as alluded to. :thumbs:

Thanks for the replies, primarily I shoot a CZ .17hmr for vermin or a .243 for longer range fox and deer and a .308 for deer. I work in the middle east, and use either an M4 or HK variant in my daily work. Thus the primary use for this weapon will be range practice while in the UK on leave. However having said that I appreciate that it is a tactical looking weapon and as such will automatically draw attention from members of the public. The land I shoot on is just over 3500 acres and as such on the very odd occasion I used it for vermin it would be in a very remote location and probably from a high seat with no members of the public around. I only really envisage using it in a vermin shooting capacity when for example the pheasants are in the pens and there would be a need for a reduction in noise compared to a .17hmr so as not to spook the pheasants. I know these cycle best with HV ammo however can be adjusted (with enough time on your hands and an allen key) to shoot sub sonic ammo.

CQB = Close Quarters Battle

I learn something new every day....... Will be fully prepared when the rats and rabbits fight back.

On the one hand I can see the aesthetic attraction. On the other hand its not going to be as accurate as a bolt.

I think either way in the field if the police get called you're going to be at gun point. I'm not sure having an assault looking rifle is going to make any difference to the public calling the police as at the end of the day, Joe public doesn't know what the rules are regarding guns amd which are permitted and which are not. They just see a man with a gun.

Personally I think I'd get bored with the looks very quickly and crave the extra accuracy.

CQB = Close Quarters Battle

When I quoted 'CQB' I was primarily referring to a compact scope such as a leapers UTC 3-9x32 for use at range not likely to exceed 50-75yrds, with minimal need for a large variable scope. Given the fact the above scope is marketed on some web sites in a multitude of manner such as a 'compact hunting scope', some as a CQB style scope, others as a good air rifle scope, I was primarily meant to a narrative description of the small compact scope. As for the rats and rabbits fighting back well what can I say!

In reference to the police arriving and having red dots on your chest, if anyone has caused alarm to the public by drawing unwanted attention to themselves by brandishing or walking around in view of the public without thinking carefully if there is

A: firstly the need to walk around with a firearm not appropriately covered as to draw attention to them, which is indeed contrary to suggested good sporting practice, or

B: to be in a place likely to cause public concern with a firearm without justifiable cause, then you would be in direct contravention of your FAC

Either way regardless of the reason for the police being called if you are not following good practice, in that you notify the land owner of your intention, if shooting at night notify your local police authority of your intended movement so as not to cause alarm, or for example walking around with a balaclava on with a rifle over your shoulder without a justifiable reason, you bring it upon yourself regardless of if you have an air rifle or any other rifle. Simply put in 10 years I have been shooting in the UK I have never had any issues with the police just simply by following simple guidelines and good practice. I carry out pest control on a golf course with a .17 HMR , and also deer management during the season on another golf course with either a .243 or .308 both of which have been approved for the calibres by my local constabulary and both of which as you can imagine are somewhat public areas, and have never caused concern to the public or patrons using the golf course resulting in the police being called. So while I take on board the fact as I stated in a previous post that a tactical looking firearm will always draw attention (and no I do not intent using a tactical looking firearm in such a location as that is simply ridiculous), I also said it is not the primary use of the weapon, and do not have the money to purchase multiple firearms bolt action and semi auto of the same .22LR calibre.

Either way if you have had dealings with the police you have either been unlucky and had the very odd member of the public that regardless of how you conduct yourself will call the police or quite simply have done something that is contrary to good practice and as such what do you expect? The onus is on the shooter to conduct himself appropriately at the end of the day.

spot on just, after the killings in cumbria by Derrik Bird the eye witnesses where claiming he had used a "sniper rifle" it was in fact a CZ452 .22lr
