OEH 0
 Ok this IS really silly I expect. I was looking at a picture of an American Mink in a magazine this evening and thought that it was a ferret. How can you tell the difference between a brown ferret and a mink. Also biologically what are the differences- can they interbreed- are they different species???????? I know that they are aquatic and have slightly shorter looking bodies, but how different are they? pegandgun 52
I think you can cross a ferret and mink. The difference is obvious and to be honest ive never seen a brown ferret that looks anything like a mink
socks 32,253
the american mink or as its known in america THE FISHER cannot breed with a ferret the chromosone balance is to wide .... the only factual evedince of mustelid breeding is between the european polecat and the ferret whose chromosone balance is the same .............. OEH 0
Thanks very much for the replies- very interesting . In the picture the mink's face was extremely similar to a ferret face, but the rest was hard to tell.
