Advice Please Guys

Recommended Posts

hi all ,

i have just had my birthday and people gave me money instead of presents to buy a new gun .

it will be used for shooting rabbits at night with a scope mounted lamp but also needed for the occasional rat or magpie / pigeon that wanders into my garden ( they seem to like the chickens feed and my aviary )

now my dilema is do i get a brand new hw95 or hw97 tactical as need one that can be shot left handed or do i risk buying a pcp secondhand and hope it lasts .

as my budget is tight a springer would have to stay untuned until i save enough to get it done .

dont want to waste my birthday and any xmas money i need to get the right gun first time my budget is around £350

any advice welcome :)

Have a look at the Logun Solo's. pcp single shot but you can buy a mag to turn it into a 10 shot. for £12

I picked mine up brand new with Hawke scope, mounts, a Hill's pump, a ton of pellets, clleaning kit, rifle bag etc for just under £400 from Uttings.com.

It's well worth shopping around for the right deals.

thanks guys , i do like the idea of a pcp but i am a bit worried about buying a used one in case it goes wrong ( are they expensive to fix if it does go tits up )

thanks secretagentmole , did take a look at them and read the reviews but one review said neighbours would not want to listen to them for long so i presumed they were loud thats why i was looking at the silenced hw95 and hw97 and the left handed stock option takes the 99 upto £389 at the airgun centre.

thanks gosling , i have just registered as i couldnt get on what you were showing me so hopfully will see it soon

HW99s are not that loud! The shortened Imps may be, but they have a silencer on to overcome that! The simple answer is to go to the Airgun Centre and give one a try on their range! They will let you do that you know, see how you get on with it like.

Then no worries, servicing, warranty, all lifetime, saves you from a world of pain!

All Springer's are quite loud compared to a pcp. Fitting a silencer will only remove the muzzle noise but the spring/piston make most of the noise. A pcp has very few moving parts so with a Silencer fitted you can fire it in the garden and cause very little noise as the only noise they make is from the muzzle.

As for servicing, the pcp doesn't have many moving parts at all. The only thing that can really go wrong are 'o' rings and you can pick up a whole 'o' ring set for about £9

I've serviced both my mates and my Springer which were both buggers to do and cost about £40. Also now done my pcp which was a breeze, costing a total of £8.44.

If you've got the money, go for a pcp. There's just no comparison. Springer's have their place and are fun to muck about with and have a big bonus that you don't have to pump the buggers up! but I wouldn't pay £300-£400 for one.

All the best with your decision.

Luke

P.S if you do choose a pcp, then check out a .177 With the accuracy of a pcp combined with the flat trajectory of the .177 their deadly!!
