goldfinger 135
Had a six foot dig today. One of the ferrets worked its collar off, bloody hard graft. It's amazing had difficult they are to retrieve when it's not attached to a ferret; must make sure it is better attached next time. This has happened to me before and I'm sure it was the same ferret. At £71 each you've got to get them back. 1 Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
Are they £71 each now? That takes the piss. Anyway no Ive not had that happen yet and if it does I hope its in a shallow warren. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Happened to me last year on a sand quarry. Locator is bleeping saying 7 foot down and ferret pops out with no collar on. Took hours to find it. Partly why I like a big hob with a massive head. Collar is going nowhere. Lol. Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
Not too bad if its a straight, shallow dig. I had one come off under a massive beech tree at 4ft. They never slipped a collar since. Also worth putting a few extra holes in the leather. 2 Quote Link to post

rabbitcatcher 1 287
I lost a collar at 5 and a half foot, it spoiled the day and took over 2 hours to retrieve, lesson learned my collars now go on as tight as I dare the the ferrets go back in the box for 5 mins so I can check they don't turn blue, it's never happened since Atb rc1 Quote Link to post

Jamie m 668
My mate lost one once I found it though it's a nightmare if there's a few tubes crossing above each other and loose dirt : / covering the collar . Quote Link to post

Learning to fly a harris. Took off my bag in a busy tourist attraction car park to don the falconry gear, then walked off, bird in hand. sam007 34
I have lost a collar and as all my work is in holly or blackthorn hedges you can imagine the pain to get it back. I have been thinking about attaching a strap to it with velcro that goes down the ferrets back and around him just behind the front legs anybody tried some thing like it ???? Sam Quote Link to post
andy97 209
the same happrnd to me had to dig 5ft though slak shit took hours after that bought some harnesses never lost one since only couple of quid aswell Quote Link to post
sam007 34
Hi Andy I looked at harnesses but I was concerned that they could snag underground and trap the ferret thats why I was thinking about velcro that could be pulled free Sam Quote Link to post

More holes in the collar, tight fit. Job done. Never had a slip since adding more holes. The more stuff hanging off a ferret, the more chance its got of getting caught up or disturbing the nets. 1 Quote Link to post
