Hot Meat 3,109
Keep it on a lead no matter what your mate says. Once it's seen the ferrets going in and out a few times and hopefully a few bunnys hit nets then consider letting him off lead. Take my advice even if you think your dog is bomb proof with ferrets pal as even if pup is, one nip off a ferret that's worked up will end up with a dead ferret and a ruined terrier if this is what you intend on doing with the dog, enjoy your day and don't expect too much from dig first few times Edited December 7, 2013 by Hot Meat 1 Quote Link to post

Its her first time out properly , any tips? . Cheers all Id want a terrier broken to ferrets before it gets out in the fields with them, with all the excitement building up in a pup on its first trip out it needs to be broken first to them in a more controlled and safer, for the ferret, environment.Keep it on a lead. ZacB 114
Hope all goes well. Make sure you post amusing tales of runaway terriers, bolting rabbits and general chaos later please 1 Quote Link to post
Mick C. 229
Its difficult Your mate is going to do most of the graft when the ferrets are entered. Most of your energies will be taken up with the pup. Try and keep to easy burrows until the dog starts to show an understanding Quote Link to post
kingnewport 19
Had a good day chaps, I kept my pup on the lead all day as my mate dog doesn't really like playing and get abit nasty. The pup wasnt to keen on the ferrets either, she tryed to eat one. We netted a 3 holer and as my mate was near 1 of the hole a rabbit bolted into a net near mean and the dog. She was straight to on it and gave it a good going over. She then carried it for a bit until she got board. My mate then shot a squirrel and the pup luved that. All in all we had a good day I think the dog had a good day too as shes knackered. Cheers all for the help and hopefully many more good days Quote Link to post
terryd 8,565
Glad you enjoyed your day would be much easier to break your dog if you had your own ferret so he gets used to them ? A chopped ferret won't impress your mate much Quote Link to post
