skycat 6,174
I'm afraid that it would be impossible to say if there's a problem or not without seeing the dog in the flesh or examining it. The internet is great for information/general advice, but only a fool would make a diagnosis without seeing an animal. Best take the pup to the vet if you're at all worried, and by the way, those 'ham' bones from pet shops are, if I'm thinking about the right ones, not a great idea for dogs. If you mean the deep fried ones, or even those very hard marrow bones, they can cause tooth damage if chewed on long enough and hard enough, and the big knuckle bones can crack teeth in adult dogs, or be too hard to digest if they do manage to crack a bit off the bone. Kemperz21 65
Thank you for your responses yes it was the vac pac ones I will stop feeding them now. he seems to be passing solid waste with no goo blood or water so maybe he was just squatting like he was crapping but peeing he is not cocking his leg all the time yet. Can anyone advise on anything to chew for him that's safe and healthy I am trying to limit the potential for chewing the table in the kitchen because if he doesn't chew for a few days he starts eyeing up the chairs
Gaz_1989 9,539
Lamb ribs, chicken wings, chicken carcass, turkey necks. All go down well

Gaz_1989 9,539
I give mine raw beef bone from the butcher, get him to cut it in half My pup is fine with these and has a little Chew when she fancies. But my older bitch can't be left with one of these. She is obsessive and would chew until her teeth wore down to the nerves. She's chipped a few teeth on them so I tend to steer clear now.

My shepherd is the same, starts off a 2 feet leg bone, finishes up as a bone egg cup
Hurlock 114
All good advice above, just to add always avoid the cooked bones especially pork and poultry mate as it is prone to splintering after cooking. Always raw, non weight bearing bones e.g necks wings etc I find is best esp with ypung dogs and new milk teeth Hurlock
Kemperz21 65
Thanks all that answers another question I was going to ask at some point about raw meat over cooked seems most feed raw meat mines on a dry puppy food at the mo should I keep on that for a while then change or start off doing it now in small amounts as well as dry food ? Hurlock 114
I start my pups from weaning on a meat porridge mate usually minced chicken then from 6-7 weeks they're well able for poultry necks and wings, then go from there with carcuss, tripe, breast of lamb etc. Always raw for me no cooked meat. I dont feed my dogs any dry food mate. Hurlock
