mintstick999 485
Just wondering if anyone had ever seen a rabbit or hare swimming whilst being chased. (if you get what i mean?) I've seen my dogs cross a stream in pursuit of a bunnie but i've never been close enough to witness how the rabbit crossed the stream.!
Accip74 7,112
When we were kids, a cruel Cnut I knew, chucked a rabbit into an outside swimming pool & sent a small lurcher in after it..... Does that count?

kranky 507
When hard pressed they'll do it. Rabbits can't swim faster than a dog though.
smithie 2,443
i once seen a rabbit leave the warren at speed after it got chased by my ferret. it was in tree roots and i could not get all nets down so i stood in the rivers edge directly in front of a hole 3/4 ft up the banking so to catch my ferret if it decided to leave that way.. the rabbit bolted and i caught it, it was going to land in the river so that one must have thought it could swim
Giro 2,648
Seen rabbits and roe swim... Rabbits crossed a drainage ditch that's normally dry, but with excessive rain fall it was full.. Rabbit hit it hard, swam a foot or two and dog nailed it.. Was on the lamp.. Pre ban just before dusk.. Dog chased two roe, the one it stuck to ,decided to hit the river and headed for wood land.. Made some distance on the swim but the dog nailed it on the open ground.. RossM 8,121
Ferreting when I was a lad, bolted a rabbit out a hole in a banking and it crossed the 9 or 10 feet to the other side, never had a dog back then and I was f****d if I was going after it. Also saw a few dead in the canal obviously you have the slight drop and wondered how long the poor b*****ds have struggled before exhausting theirselves and gave up.

OldTrapCollector 377
I have bolted them into water when ferreting near flooded pools and riverbanks I also ferreted an island way out in a lake once that I had to reach by boat, there were plenty of rabbits there and no one had taken them OTC
